Performer Flying in this show as well! Flying? Yep - I follow one of Automation guys working on the show and he was recently at FOYS testing some rigging, and today working with a revolve with a scissor lift in the middle!

flying, revolve, lifts, if all in the show, they really are throwing everything at it. I wonder if they have spent as much money on creating a decent book for the show....

Performer Flying in this show as well! You mean apart from our wigs when Oliver Tompsett starts singing... there will be something else flying in that theatre? 😱

It’s like they’ve taken the best bits of Lautrec, The Far Pavilions and Napoleon and put them all together for a Shaftesbury mega-mix. Let’s hope there’s pyro.

Can I put a request in for the Piccadilly meg-mix after? A Metropolis, Moby Dick, Which Witch mash-up would make the West End a lot more fun.

Just looking at Max Martin's back catalogue now. I wonder which song they'll crowbar a flying principal into... Katy Perry's - Rise? Kesha's - Supernatural?

Quick look at the Shaftesbury seating plans - am quite surprised re how poorly this seems to be selling. Especially given how well known the songs are.
Ditto re Manchester - which is even more surprising as musicals do very well there and also "Manchester Gets It First" only ever boosts this.
Anyway, am predicting something in the vein of Bat out of Hell with no expense spared on the staging and sets but perhaps a story that many don't gel with. Expensive and fabulous. Though who knows if commercially successful....
Anyway, going twice in Manchester (half the price of London) and can't wait.

I’m waiting to see if there are decent rush tickets for this. From what you’ve said, I suspect there will be!

Manchester is just too far for me, unfortunately! Thanks for tip off though. I wonder if dynamic pricing is/ will kick in for London soon? There’s no lack of advertising though, posters are everywhere on the tube.

^Instinctively feels like another On Your Feet which has not sold well,so I feel there will be big discounts all over the place for this, perhaps.

This show was always going to be a tough sell - Max Martin may have written all those songs but seriously, had any of us heard his name before this? The general public still thinks that singers write their own songs ( and nowadays lots of them do - or at least take credit for it) . So what we have is an actual jukebox song list with stuff shoe-horned in around a plot: what if Juliet had lived? Who cares?
That said, the wild card here is David West Read who while he has never written a musical before, is the guy responsible for the smart and funny Schitt's Creek . I don't think his name on the marquee would sell a single ticket but there is a chance that the writing will be better than your usual jukebox show. The question is: will they be able to find a balance between pushing the songs and having a show that lifts it above that so that the audience can connect with the characters? I dunno.

OK, I can only speak for myself, but I think I'm as average and vanilla as musical lovers come - I try to see most everything, sometimes even when I'm very doubtful, because I want to form my own opinion and there are very few shows I outright detest (usually for plot/book reasons) and avoid.
This one doesn't interest me at all though. I don't believe that singers/bands write their own music all the time, but I had never heard the name of Max Martin before and I know hardly any of the songs mentioned on that poster (and if I do, I don't care for them one jot, like "Baby one more time"). It seems a wild jumble of bland pop songs that might have been famous once but certainly never made a long-lasting impact like, say, ABBA's "Dancing Queen", Queen's "We are the champions" or Michael Jackson' "Thriller" to name but three artists around which successful jukebox musicals have been built.
And let's face it, nobody sees jukebox musicals for their usually bonkers' plots, people are in it for the music. This seems a third-rate compilation thrown together for a "90's party" at a local hall. Schitt's Creek is lovely and fun by the way, but there's a massive difference between watching a mildly amusing sitcom for free at home and a very expensive West End show. Sorry, I'm out.

I know it’s all subjective but I do think a good share of pop music fans do know who Max Martin is, particularly if they’re fans of Britney. Not a huge fan of Brit but I knew he was behind some of her biggest hits, even at the time they were released.
It is a tough enough sell but I do think the name will be recognizable for lots of people.

And it’s a strong cast, many of whom have a following - Cassidy, Oliver etc. I am going and taking my 12yr old daughter...she will know the songs, and I hope will be inspired by the story. Can’t wait to be honest!

Have I missed something or has the appearance of this show at West End Live not been mentioned in this thread?
I’ve only just seen it on YouTube. It’s a mystery to me why any producer would have made the decision to showcase the production in a such a rough state. It looked like an early rehearsal for an extremely ropey kid’s summer stage school production. I can’t believe that anyone would have been persuaded to buy tickets for the show after seeing that embarrassing shambles ( quite the opposite actually).
Given the quality of the cast attached to the production, perhaps the finished product will be a revelation. I hope so, but if I was the producer/PR for the show, I’d get those clips taken down from YT as fast as possible.

Judging from their comments, none of the cast actually understand the original play or its characters then?
