Charlie UK tour was pulled after it flopped on Broadway. That was to be the template for future productions so I think they had to stop and rethink. I'm sure it'll happen eventually, but not until after they've got the US tour up and running and successfully making a return. Never knew. The Broadway version looked really bad, no wonder it flopped. Would have been great to see the UK version touring. Would have been great, yes. But logistically unfeasable to tour. Far too big to fit into any receiving house which is why they rescaled it (a bit too far) for Broadway. Agree the US version look dire, that’s the version they intended to tour the UK, but I’m rather glad the plans fell through. I’d rather no tour than that on the rounds personally.

Yeah, I sorta agree. Wasn't aware that it was the US version that they planned on touring. I think Wonka is made to be magical, which the London production was. Broadway just looks pathetic.

What was changed for the Broadway production? All kids played by adults except Charlie, paper-thin, minimal Kenwright-style sets, many of Shaiman and Wittman’s original songs replaced with songs from the Gene Wilder movie.

What was changed for the Broadway production? Big changes to the book, like killing off Charlies father and adding some of the songs from the Gene Wilder movie. Adults cast as all the children except Charlie. They basically downsized everything staging-wise. What didn't they change maybe easier to explain... Heres some examples (the pictures don't do the scale of the UK prod justice) Charlies House Int: UK Charlies House Int: US Factory EXT & Cast: UK Factory EXT & Cast: US Inventing Room: UK Inventing Room: US

The US production was crap based on a bootleg I saw. The best part was that they added in Candy Man at the start, but even then it spoiled it that you saw Wonka become the Candy Man. I liked the original production of Wonka being the homeless man in disguise and therefore pulling the strings to get Charlie the chocolate and win the ticket. I liked the UK production, I saw it four times and was never disappointed.

Given their track record of importing small scale US productions wholesale, the St Ann’s Oklahoma (bluegrass band, a very dark take on the material) might be a good fit for a summer Menier Chocolate Factory show. I would absolutely die if this happened, to the point that I sort of wish you hadn't even suggested it because now I'll die a little more inside every day it doesn't happen.

I've wanted to see a professional production of Oklahoma for the longest time. I screwed up missing the tour with Ashley Day. He could reprise though given the chance.

Any hope Hedwig & the Angry Inch returns to the West End? I've always thought the Garrick could be a great venue for it.

Do we know what will fill the gap between The Inheritance and Dear Evan Hansen or have I not seen the announcement?

I can see him doing an early 2019 refurb, followed by getting some show in there for a limited run in the Summer/early autumn.

There isn't a hope in hell Head over Heels will transfer, its bombing big time on Broadway with producers plowing all their money in it to keep it going. It won't happen. On that list, Pretty Woman is doing amazingly well ans will likely transfer, even with the chance of the three cast members Samantha, Andy and Orfeh since Samantha is from here, Andy is popular here and Orfeh could come over with Andy. As for the others, The Cher Show will likely transfer too.

Producers and the great unwashed seem love a good jukebox over here so the Cher Show is probably a given. Something in me waters tells me King Kong wont transfer here.

What was changed for the Broadway production? As Serial Shusher said, lots of things. Scaled down by a ton. I've seen bootlegs of Broadway (and London twice) and it's just so different. It's pathetic. You can't tell all that much from the trailers, but you can compare the scale of both. Broadway: London: Just 5 seconds into the West End trailer you can see how much bigger it is.

I think it'll be popular. It's so fresh, new, comedic and targets everyone, it'll surely do well. Plus, it's set in London so why wouldn't we like it
