The cast recording came out today and I’m really enjoying it. Interesting...I think it highlights just how miscast both Sutton and Hugh were in their roles... there's absolutely no humour in Hugh's performance, and as much as I love Sutton (and I really do), both Til There Was You and especially My White Knight just do not work when they're being belted to high heaven - Barbara Cook and Rebecca Luker's renditions stand this test of time and I think this...doesn't. Really makes me think what an Audra McDonald or Kelli O'Hara Marian would have been like if they going to age the role up... I thought there was a lot of humour in Hugh’s performance, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I hope this comes to the West End and am not sure who would be a good replacement for Hugh if he didn’t come with it |
