What's upsetting is learning just how many casting directors have been failing to cast Sian Clifford in things when she consistently turns in one of the best performances in a show where the entire cast is at the top of their game, Oscar winners, Olivier winners, and all.

I’m deeply, deeply uncomfortable with what happened in the confessional and aghast at all the people on Twitter getting turned on by it. Yes, it’s Andrew Scott (beautiful neck) but ultimately she is deeply vulnerable and his actions are unconscionable. It’s a testimony to the art of the show that she can make us care about such deeply flawed characters. The priest is just as messed up as she is, I think. He's simply found a different displacement mechanism for it - religion, and its trappings. Did you notice that he'd already finished one bottle of booze when she walked in on him? The thing about that confessional booth is that it stopped her (and us) seeing his face as she was pouring out her feelings. I think she was actually hitting the target in the cafe when she started (absolutely defensively) questioning him back about his motivations. Gosh, the writing is just so sharp.

kathryn exactly. And the second bottle wasn’t in the drinks cupboard. What person with a good relationship with alcohol has ever hidden a bottle of vodka on a high shelf? I think the filming (cinematography?), direction, and the writing are all at the top of their game. I’m still learning about film/TV, so I don’t always engage critically with what the camera is doing. The breaking the 4th wall forced me to look at that, and there is even more clever stuff going on there than I thought. I’m going to rewatch this episode today, want to think more about what we are shown and what we hear, and the interplay of the two.

On their way to the Quaker meeting house they were on St Martin's Lane, and (I think?) there is one near there, but not where they entered. Not sure if it was the actual interior though.

Must pop in when I am next in St Martin's Lane, and after sitting silently for a few minutes leap up and say something hugely inappropriate!

So it is. I've confused it with some other kind of meeting house down a nearby passageway.

The website says there are two entrances, I bet you 50p you're just thinking of the other one.

It simply cannot be the last one next week! Some wonderful moments, lovely to see Hugh Dennis back and Martin's failed insult "Lucky lawyer" and his tiny look of confusion was perfect, as was Olivia Colman's mini meltdown. If next week's is to be the final one ever, I have no idea how it will all wrap up!

I just got caught up and I don’t know what to think!
Is it all going to end in disaster at the wedding? 😬

And so one of the best television series this century comes to a close. And it's perfect. A lot of punch the air moments with the trademark bittersweet undertones.

I did not anticipate being so emotional about the ending, but here I am with tears in my eyes. What an excellent final episode.

Gorgeous, but it was actually the . . {Where is Claire?} . . little shake of the head when the camera was going to follow her . . . . . that did it for me.

I thought it was just a sensational piece of television. I don't want a third series though. The two we have are simply perfect as they are.

Two very enjoyable and entertaining series, brought to a nice full-stop. I agree, a third would be overstretching it.
I really liked all the stuff about the asides to us: that the priest knows when she's doing it, that she wasn't doing it in the flashback sequence, and the implication at the end that she doesn't need us any more.

Watched the finale last night and then went into the shower, where I cried for 30 minutes straight. I mean messy, snot-covered, red-faced crying. Waller-Bridge's writing has a knack of getting straight to my heart, but this was something else. {The following destroyed me:} "I f***ing love you." "It'll pass."
NOOOOOOOOOOOO

There were so many lines to adore but I particularly loved . . {Ill get the champagne!} . . "the only person I'd run through an airport for is you"

Finally watched the final episode. Obviously cried.
Phoebe is a genius and her writing and acting are so layered, complex and compelling.
Every single character in the show has multiple human aspects and reflect how flawed we all are.
Heartbreaking. The final 4 minutes were sensational.

The following destroyed me: I thought 'lucky escape for him'. This series seemed to forget the first series punchline - that her best friend and two other people died in an accident because her friend was so broken over her boyfriend's cheating. He was cheating on her wth Fleabag. I thought that might come up in the confession scene but instead the big 'confession' was the miscarriage. That whole first series guilt thing - what happened to it? It's like those deaths never happened and the only problematic death in her life is her mother and the unconditional love that she presumably got from her.
