As I've said in the subject line, this is a question about Chicago the city and not the musical.
I'm running the Chicago Marathon in October this year, and if possible, would like to catch a show or two while I'm there. Are there any good websites regarding the Chicago theatre scene (or can anyone provide information on current / upcoming productions)? I know Hamilton is currently playing, but tickets are only available until July at the moment. This has been running for a couple of years already, so wondered if the booking period will be extended shortly, or if this is finishing in July?
Any advice anyone can give about must-see theatre in October would be greatly appreciated.

I lived in Chicago for three years! And my bestie lives there so I visit very often.
Your best bet is Broadway in Chicago, they'd have all the listings. I would imagine that Hamilton will extend. I've seen Hamilton in London, New York and Chicago, and I have to say that the best company was by far and beyond the Chicago company.
I would recommend visiting the websites of Steppenwolf Theatre Company, Chicago Shakespear Company and Chicago Lyric Opera for other home-grown productions. Chicago also has a terrific "storefront" theatre scene like Porchlight Music Theatre, almost similar to London's Menier or Southwark Playhouse productions. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions on the Windy City!

Thanks very much for the info, that's great. I've not arranged anything at all yet, but as the date is fixed, I want to start getting things booked.
I'll keep an eye on Hamilton tickets going on sale. I've actually still never seen the show - I had planned to see it in London this July, but if you recommend the Chicago company, I'll maybe hold off and then see something else in London (as I already have a list of things I want to see there).
Also, I'll check out those theatre companies you've mentioned, and the Broadway in Chicago listings, just now. It sounds like there is a lot of activity theatre-wise, so I suspect it will be a productive trip. And yes, I'll definitely ask if/when I need some more help - thanks again.

Where are you staying? America's best dining is there I've not booked my accommodation yet. Somewhere central, but I've still to research the different areas. It depends on how many people are coming, as an Airbnb could be an option. Yes, I'm looking forward to eating as much as possible (Chicago-style pizza) while I'm there!

This isn't much of a recommendation since I only did this once, but there's a restaurant across the street from the Nederlander Theatre that had the most amazing mulled wine, if you're into that.

They're also open late. It was the only thing open within reasonable walking distance on an INCREDIBLY cold night in November (when I saw Hello Dolly). Have fun!

Two sites to use as part of your trip research: Chicago HotTix: www.hottix.org/Chicago Tribune show listings and reviews: www.chicagotribune.com/entertainment/theater/Because the Chicago theatre scene is so vibrant and competitive, lots of discounts re usually available, particularly for the smaller theatres and non-Broadway touring shows.

I'm not sure how much warmer it will be in the middle of October, but I'll have the mulled wine regardless.

Thanks Jeffrey, this is great.
I really appreciate all the info/suggestions/links from you all. In fact I'll maybe need to plan a longer trip in order to see the other non-theatre sites.

Chris Jones is an excellent theatre critic! tehehe...he's actually my favorite theatre critic. His reviews, especially of pre-Broadway runs are so supportive and function as a consultant's feedback report instead of a bitchy critic. His latest book, "Rise Up!" is a good read, too.
