Ugh, the lack of a hyphen in "sold out" is making me itchy.
Kinda surprised Fathom Events hasn't picked this up in the US immediately. But I did sign up to be notified.

So will the december 2nd show be broadcast live or the filmed shows from yesterday? I pray to god that the camera's were still rolling yesterday when JOJ was on. Even if it's only for a technical rehearsal recording, just as they did with Jekyll & Hyde back in the day, there are 2 recordings now, one with David Hasselhof and one with Rob Evan. So what would happen if AB is sick during the recordings (as he was now) or sick again on december 2nd (which is possible)? Is there a chance that JOJ will feature in the recording then? I mean, people are replaced all the time last minute, look at Cosette in the 25th anniversary concert or Carlotta in Phantom 25th. If JOJ is in it I will definitely go to the cinema and buy the dvd/blu ray. If Alfie is in it again, I will definitely not. I find the 25th concert dvd completely unwatchable because of it. He performs like a wet newspaper and sang like a 1 trick pony. Why on earth would I spend money on that again? This could be the chance to have a good Les Mis recording after the 10th anniversary one. Sorry to be off topic but may I ask who were the original Cosette in the 25th anniversary concert and Carlotta in Phantom 25th?

I think Cosette in the Les Mis 25th concert was Camilla Kerslake and Carlotta in the Phantom 25th concert was Keira Duffy. Both have rehearsed and were replaced last minute.
Edit: I believe Camilla even played the role for a few weeks in the actual West End show together with Nick Jonas as Marius and Samantha Barks as Eponine to prepare this trio for the concert.
In the making of the Phantom 25th dvd you can also see rehearsal footage of one of the final dress rehearsals and even there Keira Duffy was Carlotta. These replacements (Katie Hall and Wendy Ferguson) took place days before the concerts I think.

I do hope JOJ and all the understudies get a well-deserved cameo role in the filmed concert! John could make a good Bishop, especially since Earl is doing 2 parts at the moment (and is a bloody brilliant Bamatabois)- also solves the potential continuity issue that might confuse cinemagoers.
But then again the only continuity Cammack cares about is probably the continuity of his income flow!

The best solution would to stream two shows with a different JVJ each, one with the STAR/BIG NAME for revenue and the other with the "second cast"/UNDERSTUDY (as some fans of the said big star have decided to call him) for quality.
This way, at least the show will have a chance of retaining deginity and integrity.

I don't know what I find more annoying, the Alfie Boe fans not happy to see "the understudy" or the "proper theatre fans" always sneering and looking down at Alfie.
Perhaps the two fan groups have more in common than they think?

I was first introduced to Alfie through La Bohème, and LM always ran parallel to that. It's weird to straddle both worlds...

Saw this tonight. My friends and I thought Micheal Ball was almost slurring his words, or was singing like he had false teeth in - sooo odd! Maybe he was biting his jaw down and this made the ssssss’s different? But we all turned round to each other at the same time thinking, what’s up with his voice?!

Also a bit annoying to be snidely remarked upon for voicing personal opinions on a forum which, by definition, is a space for doing exactly that eh?

In an ideal world obviously I would love 2 separate recordings for principal/cover casts, but just realistically thinking of how they can include everyone in the filming and not just have everyone go on at the end, a la 25th Ann. concert where the Queen's and Tour casts joined everyone onstage for the finale.

My concern is the celebrity culture and the deterioration of standards in the musical theatre world. That's all, actually.

If it was someone who cannot sing from Eastenders being cast in the staged production I'd be going crazy about it, but it isn't. He is an established singer who has been cast in a concert performance. Seems an ideal fit to me.

"My concern is the celebrity culture and the deterioration of standards in the musical theatre world. That's all, actually." This is what the discussion is about indeed. I don't see how (like Shady23 says), how preferring one over the other has anything to do with both groups having something "in common"? One group only cares about celebrity, the other cares about actual quality. 2 different worlds. The only thing in common is that people voice their opinion, which everybody does.
