This WAS called The All Star Staged Concert when it was first announced wasn’t it? Now it seems to be called The Staged Concert. Tour plans?

Unless it can get huge names and play arenas what would be the point when you can see the magnificent touring cast of the fully staged production?

Sat in AA1 of the gods tonight. The view isn't too bad considering the price at less than 20 pounds.
A previous poster mentioned that JOJ sounded and looked tired last week when he stepped in for AB several times. But I am happy to report he was back to his usual very high standard tonight. I think the young members of the cast are very lucky. It must be like having a masterclass in musical theatre every night and getting paid.
Lucky cast and lucky audience.

Saw it tonight. I think Killian and Nic on the tour beat Alfie and Michael hands down. I enjoyed it but it didn’t quite work for me. Without the dramatic element it loses a lot I think. In the ballroom scene {Possible Spoiler - click to view} When Marius belted Thenardier in the ballroom scene his wig fell off. It seemed spontaneous but is that in every night? Cast were in stitches.

Your spoiler definitely didn’t happen when I saw it and I saw a cast member had tweeted earlier about something that matches your description so I think it was just an accident!

Not a spoiler then!
So when Marius thumps Thenardier, Matt Lucas responded so vigorously that his wig fell off to much merriment and mirth.

That might end up being like Sheridan's moustache and start happening every night.

Katy Secombe cackling away, Matt Lucas laughing twice midway through Beggars at the Feast, the cast behind in stitches - it was a genuinely lovely moment which reminded me why live theatre is my favourite medium. Loved it!

Loved it! And in the end, instead of trying to get it back on straight, he just chucked the wig into the wings and finished the scene bald.

John Owen Jones was on fire at today’s matinee - absolutely played it perfectly - I have another two shows to enjoy that richness of voice - BHH was to die for 😍

I wonder if there are words to say "more than perfect". There used to be a fansite on tumblr called "godowenjones" and I think that pretty much describes it

Anyone had any luck with returns on a Sat? Have a free coach trip in a couple of weeks so was thinking of trying.

Has anyone been distracted by the way this is performed in the concert style? It’s largely played to the audience apart from some very rare moments where the characters look at each other or direct their singing to someone else on stage. I just thought it looked odd for someone, for example, dying in someone’s arms to be singing out to the audience instead of looking at the person holding them. It seemed incongruous all the way through really, and I couldn’t get past the fact that they were all very much in character without actually interacting with each other. I also found the artifice of the mic stands at the front a bit distracting when they were all wearing microphones.

Totally agree. I enjoyed it very much but found the head-on staging and permanent mics offputting. I watch it fully expecting the concert-style blocking and with it, reduced interaction between the actors. It's not entirely a change for the worse, in my opinion- subtle acting can be as powerful without resorting to full blown body movements. Good actors/those who are naturally expressive really shine through in this format; facial expressions and emotive singing still do a lot. (This is where you can tell the stark difference between JOJ and Alfie, but that's another can of worms for another day.) Most of the time the context can still be inferred from the lyrics, but I agree- when the line refers to a particularly detailed bit of blocking that the concert omits (like the runaway cart sequence, or when Enjolras hands over a gun telling Valjean to use it well)- it's a bit jarring not to have seen what led up to this lyric.

Not obsessed at all. But only once in the (overpriced for me anyway) stalls, I balanced that out with slip seats and stood one time. I think standing tickets are a good deal if you can endure it and don't care too much about not seeing the projections or orchestra, in fact I'm considering doing it again, if only to compare the performances of certain actors and see how much they've changed over the course of the run. Speaking of changing over the course of the run, has anyone found Michael Ball's Javert consistent? It's like seeing a different interpretation each time, and at different levels of proficiency shall we say. And of course wildly different from Earl's Javert, in terms of acting choices and pacing of the songs.

Best ticket i ever got esp for JVJ!😃 I’ve seen it twice with three more trips booked - all from the Upper circle leg breaking slip seats (thanks for the warning Theatremonkey) - unfortunately a £9 an hour job won’t allow me to book a posh seat!! Regardless - both performances so far have blown me away - and I have no doubt the remaining three (including final performance) will be just as fabulous

I get what they are trying to do, «look to the audience when you are talking to someone else on stage, as if they stand before you and not next to you». But it is not consistent as sometimes they also glance to the side. I think one of the reasons I found Bradley Jaden so refreshing when he entered the stage, was his interaction with the others. He did not only look at some point above the audiences’ heads. He involved the other students in his vision, which is what a good Enjolras leader would do.
