Noooo, it's not coming back, I wish!
I just wanted to create a thread to celebrate this musical, probably the most underrated musical from this decade. I saw it twice.
I loooved Tamsin, she was hysterical. And Ricardo, what a voice, and what a beautiful man (and he nailed the accent; he was the only one trying actually).
This was my first time seeing Willemijn. I remember being super excited about it. Then she sung like 4 words lol.
P.S. omg and I remember that pre-show announcement in super basic Spanish, it had me in stitches!

Im so with you on this! I thought this show was great, easily one of the most underrated shows I've seen. I had so much fun, the cast were great. It deserved a longer run, I would have gone back given the chance.

Wasn't for me. I enjoy the OBC cast recording, but this production was disjointed and its design was really terrible. I've seen many non-singing actors attempt to sing, but none of them were as bad as Tamsin. The show only came alive when Haydn Gwynne took the stage.

Oh this show could have been so wonderful. I felt Tamsin was so badly miscast. Would happily give it another go though.

Willemijn was off when I went ๐ญ Oh, you didn't miss much. This was Willemijn's whole performance: "You hear music in the distance, Pretty music you think your in luck, Then the music get louder and louder and bang Your hit from behind by the ice cream truck..." Iconic. Should of been Olivier nominated. ๐๐

Haha! Yes I know she only had a โsmallโ role but I remember thinking โoh this is the bit!โ.
Anyways, Tamsin Greig make anything sheโs in worth watching so I remember enjoying the show whilst watching it, but nothing about it made me want to return.

I will say, there is an audio of YouTube of this song Tangled with Willemijn singing that bit if you did want to hear it! I just found it a shame it didn't do as well as it could of done. I remember too that it extended one w day and then a few days later announced it was closing, which made me really sad as it was extending for another three months into August and it could of really had a chance at the tourists in the Summer.

I never saw the London production. But Model Behaviour is one of the greatest pieces of musical comedy of the last 20 years. Laura Benanti is a masterclass in that song

Wellemijn had the most ridiculous over the top posh accent. The entire thing was quite jarring.

I love the score but the London production wasn't very good at all and imho Tamsin Greig was miscast.
The day I went both Pedro Almodovar and Rossy de Palma were seating behind me. The Q&A with them after the show was quite fun.

It was brave to put the show straight onto the West End considering it's somewhat disasterous Broadway run. Nowadays, it would of gone through an Other Palace workshop run first, or a limited run at somewhere Off-West End.

I liked it very much, and much preferred Tamsin Greig to Sherie Rene Scott's un-performance on the Broadway cast album.
It helps that the London cast were not directed to play their entire roles in ridiculous cod-Thpanish accents. It also helps that the London production had a Lucia who understands what consonants are and is capable of articulating more than one-and-a-half vowel sounds.
The new finale is lovely, and Ricardo Afonso's 'My Crazy Heart' was breathtaking.
The London cast recording (now the official reference recording for future productions, you can hear it on the show's page on the MTI website) is absolutely terrific. It's a great pity it's never been commercially released.

Haydn Gwynne was divine. Why isn't she a Dame yet? I'm guessing her Camilla in 'The Windsors' isn't helping her case but even still . . .

I think I enjoyed it as I saw it twice but to be honest I remember very little about it (and it's not because of my age). Can't think of a single song from it either. I do remember the set was very bright and some bloke played a guitar at the beginning. However love the film. 2nd time I saw it was a kind of date that I think was arranged by WOS and we had to report back after. That wasn't much of a success either.

Listened to some of the London cast recording and it just doesn't compare to the OBC. It lacks that manic energy for me, the orchestrations sound so much thinner, and Pepa and Ivan are so much worse vocally than the originals (Ivan is supposed to have this deep, sultry, silky baritone and this actor is about as far from that as you can get). I'm sure in terms of acting and comedy this cast probably were great but lots of little things have been lost in the music like in On the Verge they don't start ululating even though they still say the line and other embellishments like this seem to be gone as well.
