Qdos? Shame. The Palladium deserves better than their copy-paste productions, with little to nothing in the orchestra pit, heavily scripted corpsing, and cast members who appear simply because they are off the telly, despite being completely unable to carry a tune. What a waste of a brilliant idea. I disagree, speaking as someone who attended the Birmingham Hippodrome's for 11 years (with a couple at the Wolverhampton Grand), they really are fantastic and deliver great sets, effects, as well as a star cast who deliver. They are by far the best to bring panto back to the Palladium. Couldn't agree more!

Put it into this perspective, if Britney got the role: She has performed a residency show in Vegas now for 2 years and extended for the next two years... so far she has done around 140 shows thus far. The venue holds about 4,300 people a night, and over those 140 performances she has performed to 510,000 people, which is a huge amount considering. Now if there is say 5 weeks of performances in this, which if going by the usual West End performances is 8 shows a week, that means a total of 48 performances. No doubt in my mind that if she is in for it, those performances will be packed to the brim with Britney fans in seconds. Yep and that would be a problem for a successful panto...It becomes a Britney concert

Can't imagine Britney doing it. Her Vegas residency so far has always taken in the Christmas and new year spell as one of its most lucrative runs each year

Though she hasn't yet announced her usual Christmas week dates yet (she usually does 4/5 shows in Vegas between Christmas and New Year). If she doesn't do the Christmas dates in Vegas it is a bit stupid of her as that is really where the money is at around the holiday season!

I heard Olly Murs was approached for this too? Seriously, he'd be perfect casting for Buttons.

Is there a reason Panto is in the musical thread.

Is there a reason Panto is in the musical thread. Where else could it possibly fit haha?! It is either considered a Musical or a Play with Songs, or just throw it in the General.

You do need names that 'get' panto, there is an art to panto and some big names over the years have been awful. It would also be a shame if it gets a name that is so big that it sells out the palladium straight away and pantos target audience (families)end up excluded. This would also affect the atmosphere. If they're chasing celebs like Britney and Kylie, I can promise you that the traditional nuclear family is absolutely not their intended target audience for this production.

I love that they asked Kim Kardashian before Britney!!! What a slap in the face.
At this rate it will be Katie Price as Cinders and Katie Hopkins as the Stepmother

I saw a figure quoted of half a million for Britney. Wouldn't make sense for her surely, that'd be 6 or 7 shows in Vegas. Why would she do 8 shows a week on that basis

Frankly I can think of nothing worse than some American pop star who cavorts around in dodgy costumes and mimes - but hey, what do I know? I just like traditional panto.

To give you an idea, the "name" for a Qdos panto is usually on around 20 grand a week. But that goes up massively for big names. David Hasselhoff is 70 grand a week, and essentially acts as loss leader, as families will come to see pantos there for several years after.

Hah! A cunning plan!

I don't see why they would need a popstar, per say. Songs in Pantos are rarely very demanding on the vocal chords... All very "ooh er Missus" from what I can recall. The whole Britney idea is far fetched. As others have said, Britney wouldn't get out of her sun bed for the money they could offer her!

I wonder if Biggins has been approached? That would be great. Say what you like about him but he is a truly sensational pantomime dame.

The Sun online report on this suggested Britney would be on for a couple of numbers and the rest of the cast would carry it

i thought Biggins had announced he was doing one last panto this year and that would be it, but I'm sure someone else on here is more in the know than me.

Michael Harrison's shows are usually very slick. It sounds as though he'll be using The Twins FX for the flying car - they've provided the flying elements in Newcastle and other venues for the last few years: www.thetwinsfx.com/case-study-flying-car.asp

Wonder if they'll make references to Chitty this year then! The Twins FX are usually very good and by the look of them they keep getting better! The pictures of the flying carpet on their website make me regret not going to see Aladdin last Christmas!

You missed a cracker of a pantomime (except for Marti Pellow - but that is probably personal taste) and the effects were phenomenal. Yes you can just see some of the workings from front half of the stalls, but also saw this from the balcony and it was absolutely magical for all the kids around me.

I, for one, am really excited for this. When Qdos have the budget to go big, they go big. Michael Harrison also mentions that he wants to tour this production in future years, so we can expect to see it at the "big" Qdos venues in future years - Birmingham/Southampton/Newcastle etc.

Bit confused about the article in The Stage. It says the panto "replaces the previously announced School of Rock" and links to a previous article - but School of Rock has since announced (a while ago, actually) that it was moving the transfer to Spring 2017. So when it comes over (even if it doesn't end up at The Palladium), the dates of Cinderella (which finishes in Jan 2017) don't clash with SoR at all.
Who do they have working at The Stage these days?!

Not only will this have to compete with the Birmingham Hippodrome in getting the best stars, but the Barclaycard Arena also in Birmingham has now announced the return of the "World's Biggest Panto", Snow White, which, judging by the reviews of last year's Cinderella, is quite surprising to see come back!

Snow White is only December 19-22. Not even the weekend. Should have no effect on London.
