I think its becoming quite evident they've had some trouble casting this with the stars they wanted.

I quite like her but I certainly wouldn't rush out to see her in this role. Also, I prefer my Fairy Godmothers a bit older. I agree, I like Amanda a lot, but I would rather someone who doesn't look around the same age as Cinderella herself!

Amanda Holden? What's wrong with some casting directors? There's just one scenario where I would cast Amanda Holden, and that's when the only other choice is Kimberley Walsh. Wait, even then I'd rather not stage this show at all.

I think Amanda Holden will be great!!
It's funny and weird how Baz is announcing cats bit-by-bit. I think it'll be the step sisters next?

Amanda Holden? Oh dear.
What's that noise? Is that the sound of a barrel being scraped?

Baz said no date for further casting but should be soonish. I think it be the step sisters next then Cinderella as the last announcement. Maybe an older lady at the castle as well to go with Nigel Havers.

I suspect that a fair few actesses were approached and declined.
For example Barbara Windsor, but at 78 I suspect that up to 12 shows a week would have been too much!

Thought this morning, wouldn't it be great to have Joanna Lumley and Jennifer Saunders as the Ugly Sisters - having been all over the media for the Ab Fab movie? Obviously unlikely to happen but would boost the female lead number up.

Barbara Windsor Eastenders return, aired over just five episodes, was filmed over 6 weeks to help her cope with the workload. She was never in contention for 12 shows a week. She's virtually retired from show bussiness now.

I think Amanda Holden will be great!! Amanda Holden and great are words that should not be found together. Ah no! I love her on BGT and she should have good chemistry with Cinderella. Would've been nice to have seen someone like Joan Collins as it thiugh

Saying "that was a good performance. It's a yes from me" does not make you suitably qualified to sing or act to the required standard for a leading lady.
If she hadn't been in the papers for having an affair and got famous as a result she wouldn't even be getting gigs on Blackpool Pier!
(Sorry Amanda fans)

I really liked her in Shrek and think she was unfairly reviewed by some, probably because she was cast initially over her being well known over anything (deny all you want, she is a well known and pretty well liked person). She was fun, she made it her own and I doubt she will be bad in this. And in all honesty, if they have her only in the transformation scene, do people really care? Usually in panto, the role of Fairy Godmother is also the narrator, but even then, you wont be that bothered by her surely?
Also wondering, how were her reviews for Millie back in the day? She must of done alright considering she was Olivier nominated for it!

I still can't believe how she was cast in Shrek. I was spoilt by seeing the outstanding understudy Alice Fearn first so I had high hopes for the main cast Fiona, but Amanda Holden was astonishingly bad. Wooden acting, weak singing voice, no chemistry with her fellow cast members and no charisma. Admittedly, her replacement (Kimberley Walsh) was even worse, but that's not something I wanted to be judged by.

I'm German, and, prior to seeing her in Shrek, I have never heard of Amanda Holden before. I was thus totally unbiased when I saw her (admittedly, I had great expectations as I had seen her fantastic understudy Alice Fearn first, and, naive as I was back then, naturally assumed that the main cast Fiona must be even better - how wrong I was) and was astonished how someone as bad as her could have been cast as a lead role in a West End theatre. As I've said above: Wooden acting, weak singing voice, no chemistry with her fellow cast members and no charisma. Oh, and I forgot to add "completely unfunny".

Also wondering, how were her reviews for Millie back in the day? She must of done alright considering she was Olivier nominated for it! I don't remember the reviews but I saw both her and her understudy Donna Steel as Millie. And for me Donna was on a completely different level. I found Amanda quite bland in the show. She was what I would descibe as average. Not a car crash but far from great.

I think Wimbledon will have to get good casting this year as they aren't the only London pantomime anymore. I've been going there ever since I was a little child but we've changed this year.

I wouldn't say Amanda Holden's the greatest actress in the world but she is professionally trained and has a career spanning quarter of a century. If she wasn't currently best known for her work on a talent show I'm sure there wouldn't be anywhere near as much negativity about her, and a lot of the criticism smells a bit of "She's famous now so she must suck".

I don't wish to be Mr Negative, I mean, I love Paul Zerdin's act especially, but there was just so much potential for this, so much potential!

For me its nothing to do with her role on a talent show. I thought she was awful before that and ive stuck to that opinion

Wait, I'm confused, why are people complaining that they are scraping the bottom of the barrel with Amanda when it is hardly the best of casting all around anyway? Lee Mead, Paul O' Grady and a little Julian Clary aside.
