Liisi has now created 2 big roles in London. Deena Jones and Satine. Yet not a single Broadway credit. How does that work? I find the whole exchange thing fascinating. I'd love to know who we have sent over to work on Broadway. Is it a like for like? I learnt today that when American Equity finally agreed to Sarah Brightman going over with Phantom, Andrew had to have an unknown American actress in the lead, which is how Ann Crumb came to be in Aspects of Love. Well, it fascinates me... lol

Like Bertie Carvel in Matilda who was great by the way Like Cynthia Erivo in The Color Purple who was excellent All three leads in Harry Potter and Cursed Child (which you should boycott on Broadway)

I'm not debatimg anyones right to work anywhere.i said that in my previous post. 99% of the British actors mentioned previously, that have gone to America, are playing the roles they played here. Great. Good for them. What i am saying, is that i would prefer to see a big new show open in London with a cast selected from our own amazing talent. Was liisi so amazing in Dreamgirls that no-one else here could have done it better? Definitely not. Name me a British female who has gone to NYC and originated a lead role in a brand new, big budget show, twice (Samantha Barks has, but she had some name recognition beforehand)I hope that she is sensational in Moulin Rouge, and if she is I'll gladly eat crow pie..

Say we finally get a big brand new production of Aida, here in London. The title role goes to someone from America.
Another great role for a black female performer to make a name for herself here in the West End.
It's a shame people cant be more supportive of our own talent.
Anyway back to Moulin Rouge....

And the pride of seeing British performers wow Broadway.

But every example is different, so looking for someone who's situation mirrors Liisi LaFontaine's is arbitrary. Why is Rachel Tucker in The Last Ship not valid, just because she did Wicked on Broadway first? Or there's Laura Michelle Kelly in Finding Neverland. She also reprised her role in Mary Poppins on Broadway first, so does she not count? British talent do get their shot, here and in the US. **EDIT: As Andrew has pointed out below, Rachel Tucker made her Broadway debut in The Last Ship.**

Talk about missing the point. You all get depressed really easily. Not at all, I got your point, I think you're wrong. There seems to be an assumption that if you support foreign talent you aren't supporting domestic. That is both wrong and rather inward-looking, and I'm fairly shocked and sad that so many people on this board seem to take that view. If you draw an arbitrary line between British and non-British talent, then ultimately that is the view you're taking.
