How exciting! At least there isn't any jarring "stunt casting". Looks like a lot of relatively fresh talent, what a great opportunity for them.
I've just realised that while you've all been talking about Clive Carter, I've been confusing him with Clive Rowe. Oops!

Jason Pennycooke will once again be magnificent as will Simon Bailey. The rest of the cast are an unknown quantity to me so I will wait for the reviews to spend any money. If that means I have to wait a few months to see it then so be it.

Its a brave choice to give Christian to a graduate, making his professionl debut with no musical credits in his bio, though i assume/hope he did some at RADA. He must really have something special.

Scuse my ignorance, whats a walking cover? Full time understudy exclusively for that part, also known as a "standby". They have to be on site 30 mins to an hour or so at the venue prior to the show and for the duration of the first Act, under Equity rules from what I remember. I've only DSM'd a few shows which used them. Normally they sit backstage in the dressing room and look at their Social Media then go home at the interval 🤣 sometimes they'll run scenes/blocking if needed to stay fresh or take notes from the RD of changes or mistakes previously Liken them to a fireman on call. Company manager will phone them up and ask them to come to the venue as they are on (or sometimes because the on stage understudy is off and they need someone in the building in case the principal goes indisposed). As most people don't live walking distance to their West End workplace, they normally just set up base in the theatre with Starbucks, social media and a book then go home at "half time". Every single night 🤣

Jamie's voice is lovely! Really lovely! I think he's definitely, absolutely Christian material. Great casting. I would have preferred Satine be a little bit older looking than Liisi. There's a cougar vibe from Nicole Kidman in the film and Liisi looks a bit too fresh faced to be an experienced courtesan.

So if the tickets are cheaper- you are happy for a much less extravagant production I assume? Maybe cut some ensemble , and some of the scenery? Aaron Tveit is not Hugh Jackman. Only theatre fans know who he is!

He sounds lovely, although there's so much riffing. You usually hear it sung 'straight'. I wonder where that performance was? It might just be my tiny screen but quite a few of the performers behind him look to be Asian. Or Mr Incredible.

I don't care where someone is from, I care if they're good. If Brits who auditioned didn't impress the producers and casting directors then so be it. It's also nice to not always have to go to New York to see US talent as well - no-one was complaining that they cast Sutton Foster rather than a Brit in Anything Goes, so it's a bit hypocritical for there to be moaning about the casting here!

Totally agree. And it works both ways, as there are plenty of British actors who have created roles on Broadway. I really dislike the "British jobs for British workers" mentality; what other reason would the producers have to cast from a global talent pool, other than to get the best people for their show?

It wasn't particularly short notice on Anything Goes, Sutton last did it 10 years ago so her learning the show again is barely different to Lisii learning Moulin Rouge, and at short notice it would surely have been easier to cast a Brit than to have to deal with all the work permit requirements to bring Sutton over. There are plenty of British "names" who could have done it. Yet not a single person complained about any of that, so it is hypocritical to treat this any differently. You may think that there are Brits good enough to impress the producers of Moulin Rouge, and there may well be (indeed, you are ignoring the fact that most of the cast are British and focusing on two cast members only, which is hardly fair), but I'm just stating a fact that clearly they didn't, otherwise they would have been cast. That's not an insult, it's just a fact. Neither of the two leads are big names so they were clearly cast for their talent, not their profiles. At the end of the day, they are also just talented performers looking for work. Where they find it is irrelevant and I think it's very unfair to complain about them being cast. You're effectively saying no foreign actor should ever set foot on a London stage, which is just preposterous given they have done for decades. And I'm sure everyone on this board has seen many of them without a hint of a complaint.
