Did you see that Comedy of Errors? It was in the early 70s i believe. No - Lynette saw it though.

The only thing that would please me would be the resignation of Doran and his team.
People deserve better than his mediocrity
The quality of theatre is strained under his regime. Standards are dropping...

Standards are dropping... There's also a lack of ambition and a loss of nerve, you can do H-VI/R-III compressed into three plays on the main stage (the venue originally promised) and attract an audience no problem - it has been done several times before - you need a good director and decent cast, that's all. Shoving them off into the Swan is inexplicable. The same for Timon of Athens.

I know they did Kiss Me Kate in the 80's Have the RSC ever done a revial of a classic musical that isn't Shakespeare related such as My Fair Lady or Oklahoma? As well as Showboat, they did Poppy 1982 (the Opium Wars), The Wizard of Oz 1988 (with Imelda Staunton as Dorothy), The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe 1999, as well as the infamous Carrie 1988.

It does annoy me when they announce what is in effect half a season, Richard 3 is clearly going to follow the xmas show in mid January and the Henries only just go into January so there might be space for two more shows until the Summer 21 season starts. The RSC ought to be able to plan and announce a full season, Edward II must be imminent for example to follow the other recent Marlowes. That being said, i will see the Henries in one sitting, should be good.

David Tennant maybe?

I’m wondering if the loss of funding, BP , is having an effect.

The Swan is one of the most enjoyable theatre spaces I know. Ripping it up for this is close to being disastrous
Certainly a huge waste of money.
And I just hope it goes back to normal seamlessly...

They did it before with no problem, don’t see why it’s expensive anyway, also the top price stalls seats they lose as a result wouldn’t have been filled in the middle of winter for Henry VI anyway (with unremarkable directors and actors).

I’m wondering if the loss of funding, BP , is having an effect. doubt it, not like they were a main sponsor, just the key thing.

I would have thought it fairly likely that Richard will be played by a female actor

Iirc Tennant's on the record as saying he doesn't especially want to play Richard III, though he may have changed his mind since.
They may want to cast a disabled actor.

Presumably this means the Henries won't get a cinema screening? Seems a bit crap considering every single other one has.
