I just think the Glenn fan club are setting their sights low.
This could be epic with someone (as yet unknown/unmentioned) who could both sing the score to perfection AND act the hell out of it. Why should there be any compromise in a movie which will preserve Sunset musical forever?
Even if Glenn can reach the notes (which I don't think she can) her voice IMHO doesn't have a particularly pleasant quality I don't think.
I've detailed why I just don't think this will be made, but if it did, pretty please get the best lady for the job!

A more general note - how I wish there was a high quality filming of the original London production of this show on general release.
This is the best DVD/Blu-Ray experience for most stage musicals I'd argue.
(Ditto all the mega-musicals in fact! So sad that they have gone unpreserved...)

Haha, I really enjoyed the last tour - went in Leicester, Manchester (twice) and Bristol (twice). Thought it was great. But less than 50% full on Saturday nights many times..... Does make you wonder about the wider popularity of this show. (Ria Jones and Danny Mac were fantastic btw) |

Actually, scratch Taylor and let’s go the full Ariana. That would be huge box office. If you t(r)ail through the Cats thread, before it flopped, u will hear people argue that it would be a huge box office hit coz Taylor Swift is in it and EVERY SINGLE ONE of her fans would go see it........ |

She would be a great Miss Schaefer actually! She has musical theatre experience and could convincingly pass for 22 (the given age of the character).
I can just see her with sensible hair and a twin set & pearls!

Glenn Close is 72 but could easily pass as being 60. The character Norma Desmond was 50 I believe. So they’d be ageing up the character by 10 years. I don’t see the problem, the story still works with a 60 year old Norma. As long as we believe that she has the ability to snare a younger man by whatever means, physical, emotional, financial, it all works fine for me.
Indeed - 60 year old actress playing Norma - fine, but not 72!!!

I know everyone will disagree. But even if she wasn't too old (which she is, ludicrously so), SHE CANNOT SING. That simply is not true. You may or may not find the sound she produces attractive, but she is not physically incapable of singing. |

I saw Glenn Close in SB at the Coliseum a couple of times (and I'm no fan of her or the show) but I found her performance mesmerising. One of the few times in my life I've felt in the presence of a true star.

Completely agree, I dont think I've seen a performance like it on stage. the moment the spotlight hits her for the first time before AIWNSG game me chills. she completely lived that role.
Compare that with Ria Jones on tour, who I'm sure many will argue sings it better, left me cold. She couldnt act it and no real emotion in the singing, just standing on stage belting it out. If I had seen Ria as Glenn's understudy I would have wanted money back to be honest.

You don't need to be an amazing singer when you 'are' the character. That is what I look for in an actress and Close had that in spades in Sunset.

And when that spotlight hit her, those huge diamonds in her earrings and necklace sent reflections around the coliseum like a mirror ball. I nearly wee wee’d meself. |
