Treated myself to Oliviers tickets this year - very excited, never been before. Guess I'll have to start saving for something glamorous to wear now! Anyone else going? Fingers crossed Michael C Hall gets a nomination, that would make me even happier

Hope you'll have a fab time! Blow Michael a kiss for me - bet he's not only going to be nominated but will be performing as well
Been at Oliviers 2014 - was wearing a cocktail dress, nothing too glamorous and it seemed they were not very strict about it (even though dress code said "black tie"). Red carpet freaked me out a bit but free champagne on arrival was a lovely touch. Hope the seats are not as cramped as at ROH.

Do many people go out and get a new card just to be able to book something? For me that would put me off: I don't use a credit card — debit only — but if I was getting one I'd want one that was competitive on terms and conditions, not one that had to resort to exclusive access. I got a Barclaycard so I could buy tickets for the Olympics and have never used it since.

I got an Amex specifically for the NT. Ordinarily I'd just pay with my debit card, but I like having a couple days headstart on public booking and I pay off the Amex with the debit card right away, so it doesn't cost anything extra and the immediate full repayments are probably making quite a nice contribution to my credit score. Which would be useful if I was ever going to be able to afford a mortgage.....

You get to walk the red carpet? At the Tonys you're ushered through the side entrance.

If you want a red carper experience try joining the BFI for the London Film Festival. I went to European premiere of The Lady in the Van expecting a side entrance but I had to walk down a never ending red carpet to silence and one rather oportunistic flash of a camera.

After seeing the girls this afternoon I think this is certain to be in the best new musical category. It's British and has got great performances songs, story, cast etc. Wouldn't be surprised if Joanna or Claire get a nod in best actress either.
Dreamgirls surely to get noms too

Hi all - 1st time post for me :-) We went to the Oliviers for the first time last year and it was an amazing night. We got to walk the red carpet (which was a bit intimidating with all the public at the barriers whispering 'are they anyone?', then looking disappointed when they realised we weren't...). On arrival, we were ushered into the bar, with free-flowing champagne and everyone looking very glamorous. There was a goody bag on our seats, which sadly didn't contain a Tiffany bracelet or tickets to the Maldives, but there was some posh sweets, water and other bits and pieces...it was a nice touch and a nice souvenir. The seats were in the gods, but it was a great experience just to be there. Afterwards, we hung around for a few minutes hoping to be invited to a showbiz party, or at least for cocoa at Dame Judi's, but we gave up and popped in the pub across the road, which seemed very quiet. After a few minutes, a small crowd came in to much applause, and it was the cast of People, Places and Things, including the wonderful Denise Gough clutching her newly won best actress award. She was lovely and let us hold the award and have pics taken with it (it's surprisingly heavy!). So it was a great end to a fantastic night.
We've got tickets to this year's awards at the RAH, but it is a bit disappointing that we don't get to walk the red carpet (it says in the t&cs that the entrance for us lot is round the back), and given there will be so many more paying public there, I wonder if the champagne will be as generous. However, still looking forward to it, and it's a great excuse to dust off the sparkly bow tie!

Do people think The Girls will get some noms? The reviews have been gd It will definately get some nominations, probably be the Mrs. Henderson Presents and get Best New Musical and some performance nominations, and probably Gary getting a nomination for Score, just to get him there and to perform, yet again, rather than the talented cast. But I don't know if it will win anything. I can't judge based on not seeing it yet, but it is a competitive year at the Oliviers this year, especially in the performance catagories.

I agree it is a very competitive year this year, especially with new musicals. Dreamgirls will get lots of noms (and win lots) and there is also School of Rock, Aladdin, Half A Sixpence, Groundhog Day, Sunset Boulevard.

I (and somewhat surprisingly) actually don't think Dreamgirls will win as many as people expect. It will get a fair few nominations: Best New Musical, Best Actress (possibly for both Amber and Liisi), Supporting Actor (for Adam J. Bernard), Supporting Actress (for Ibinabo Jack), Choreography, Best Lighting Design and Best Costume Design. But say if it does get these 8, for example, in a year where Harry Potter shares technical catagories, it will only win a couple. If Play and Musical was split, it could win Lighting, but Harry Potter is bound to get it ! It has a shot at Costume though, again if Harry Potter or Aladdin doesn't win that. I also think Half a Sixpence is pretty easily set to win Choreography and it seems to be Rebecca vs. Emma for Supporting Actress.
The only ones it will likely win is Musical, Amber for Actress and Adam for Supporting Actor, unless he is beaten out by his own co-star for Jesus Christ Superstar!

A week tomorrow, we get the nominations announcement! Very exciting to see who will be nominated this year, especially as there is no real frontrunners in many of the categories it seems.

It will be so ridiculous if they consider Dreamgirls a 'new musical' since it's been around since the 80s, had numerous benefit concert/regional revivals and a full blown movie. It should be a revival, end of story. But anyway, I can see Harry Potter doing very well overall, and in spite of some people's opinions, Aladdin will probably fare very well especially in the tech categories.
