I love a bit of Fanny and this is a really guilty pleasure: one of my camp must-watches each Christmas is her festive series from the 70s. I loved it as a boy and love the sheer campness of it now. Hilariously ghastly but compelling. And oh the finger clicking at 2:44!
Throughout the series, it is hilarious how her assistant Sarah has to get dowdier the more “glam”(!) Fanny’s attire is.
But oh boy, this omelette is something else: thank heavens for icing sugar!

Apparently a Christmas tradition in Victoria Wood's household was to sit down on Christmas Day and watch this 1987 edition of Highway

Oo now that takes me back.....I think I watched this episode as a young man thinking Ipswich seemed a nice place to visit. And there are some nifty 80s fringes going on.

Apparently a Christmas tradition in Victoria Wood's household was to sit down on Christmas Day and watch this 1987 edition of Highway
I remember watching this when it first aired, or maybe on video the week after, at my grandmother's house in Suffolk (though not in Ipswich), with my dad practically stuffing his fists into his mouth to try and stop himself from laughing while those ladies sang 'Who Will Buy?'. He lost the battle, and so did I, a couple of minutes later when Harry Secombe announced in voiceover that James Smillie would sing 'People' from 'Funny Girl' "from his vantage-point overlooking the shopping centre".

Ah, that reminds me that back in circa 1987 I had an exceptionally unhealthy obsession with James Smillie.

The sheer awfulness of a mincemeat omelette to start with then doused in an entire packet of icing sugar turns my stomach, but as you say, it's a real guilty pleasure to watch, but please don't ask me to eat it (well unless you've cooked it Bo!) But what kind of mind would come up with the recipe in the first place?! |

Oh she was. Something of a monster comes to mind. But her tv downfall was epic. Yes Fear of Fanny was fab: Julia Davies in particular fine form |

Fear of Fanny is wonderful. I have watched it several times and never tire of it.
