Alexandra Burke was very VERY good in Chicago!! I may have to see this again, I love me some Joseph! I thought she was very good in "Chess".

I do love how subjective theatre is - I thought she was awful in both!

She was the most successful in terms of seats sold for The Bodyguard. She was lovely when I met her after Chess.

I've been pleasantly surprised by her in all the MT she's done.
Have always thought she has a sensational voice. And in the right show can hit what is for me a sensational mix of MT clean notes and the occasional riff. (Used sparingly I love the latter; used as a substitute for clean crisp MT style singing, I really don't!)

I do love how subjective theatre is - I thought she was awful in both! Yes, all subjective. I thought her voice was pretty incredible in Chess. She is not an amazing actress but at no point was she awful. If I remember correctly, she received quite a bit of praise in press reviews but there was a bit of meanness towards her on this board. I liked her Roxie, she was fun, sounded great and her dancing was on point.

I’d much rather see LH than Burke..
Also either that photo is photoshopped to death , or she’s been taking age pausing pills !

No guarantee Linzi will appear at all the performances AB is due to miss, but it's a starting point at least!

From the website:
PLEASE NOTE: ALEXANDRA BURKE WILL NOT APPEAR AT THE FOLLOWING PERFORMANCES:
Sat 17th July Matinee and Evening, Wednesday 18th August Matinee, Sunday 22nd August 5pm, Wednesday 25th August 2.30pm, Saturday 28th August Matinee and Evening, Sunday 29th August Matinee and Evening, Wednesday 1st September Matinee, Saturday 4th September Matinee
Once Linzi Hately makes it onto the website - I expected they'll be more specific about which performances she is doing
EDIT: Oops - Sorry the post above wasn't there when I started this one - apols for duplication

So if Linzi Hateley is the understudy, it would have suggested she would’ve played the role of the lead Narrator full time if offered, which for me is more preferable, I don’t mind Alexandra and enjoyed her, what she has been in so far, but she isn’t as good as Linzi, who on the the 1991 Palladium Revival Cast Recording, had the most melodic and scrumptious voice - in other words Alexandra should have been cast as the understudy instead.

Sadly the great unwashed would rather someone ‘off the telly’ than someone who can REALLY deliver the goods. Look at Amanda Holdens career.

In an interview about a month ago Linzi said she could never imagine playing the Narrator again, that it was a young persons part. I'm guessing that they made an offer she couldn't refuse.
In the same interview she said that there was only really 1 part in the score that was tough, 'letting out a mighty roar, Potiphar burst through the door' so i'm intrigued how she'll manage that.
I had already booked to go to see it, ive just booked for another 2 of the dates Alex is off.
This is the best theatre news of the year. Yes, i'm excited!!

I would assume the chance to reunite with Jason was quite hard to resist, and we know that singing well isn't really a requirement in this production!

Linzi now listed on Joseph site but no mention of her “special performances” dates. Will it be every show Burke doesn’t do?
