And, at the end of the day it's something to look forward to. With a year of nothing I am going to enjoy absolutely everything I see this year.

Yes Alexandra will definitely bring her considerable vocal skills to the role and am sure will be well suited to it. She has a busy summer with going straight into My Best Friends Wedding straight after. Joseph ends on 5th September and My Best Friends Wedding starts on 20th September.

I didn't warm to her in Chess but I think she may be really good as The Narrator. I can imagine her giving a good belt where it's needed. Just hope they drop the comedy though. Anyone think there's a chance this might be filmed/streamed for extra revenue? Wouldn't mind seeing it but really don't fancy travelling down to London just for the one show

I can only go by my experience of seeing her in Chess a couple of times and I stand by my comment. But it's all down to personal tastes isn't it. It's interesting, I agree Chess didn't showcase her as the best actress. Though I found that production was terribly miscast full stop. Even Michael Ball I found completely unbelievable as the Russian. And there was less than zero sexual chemistry between him and Cassidy, was all most odd. Just none of the relationships were remotely convincing. Anyway, for me with this one, I'd have loved nothing more than a musical theatre trained pro who'd slay it. But I think realistically, especially in these times, they were always going to go with a 'name' to help get bums on seats. Out of this pool there are very very few people who are amazing singers and amazing actors. For my taste I would always prefer the former, particularly for Joseph. The acting needs to be good enough, the singing needs to be amazing. And for me she fits the bill. Totally appreciate this is down to personal taste though and also that Sheridan's Narrator worked for many people :-)
Agreed. That production, while sung fantastically can only be looked upon as a staged concert really, because acting and chemistry between actors was clearly not a priority!!!!!!!

I really like Sheridan, but even I think they went way overboard with the tailoring of the part to her. I think without the powerhouse vocals really needed for the part, it was perhaps the right avenue to focus on comedy, just maybe turned down from eleven to about six.
As for Burke, I've only seen her in Chicago and thought she was terrific. Her acting was good and she did the cartwheel. No complaints here.

Interesting casting! Can't comment on her acting as I've never seen her perform, but I'm sure she'll sing the part well.

Alexandra will be more physically suited to the role than Sheridan was. Sheridan wasn't right vocally or physically for the role.

I’d never seen Joseph before this version, so I didn’t mind the comedy aspect. It’s such a weird story with so many different music genres crammed into it that I can’t imagine how it’s ever played straight.
Can they cast a better singer for the Pharaoh now? People give SS a lot of flak but JD was shocking.

Let’s drop the comments about Sheridan’s “physical suitability” shall we? We can all tell what’s being implied and apart from being a steaming pile of nonsense it’s veering very close to breaking rule 5. Now let’s move on please.

Pleasantly surprised at this casting. No, she's not the best actress but the strength of the Narrator role has always been the vocal chops (since the 1991 version at least). Sheridan Smith was fine, in a role they tailored for her, but I am actually looking forward to a more serious and vocally equipped rendition again.
I do wonder what they'll do with Jacob and Mrs Potiphar now though... I can't see Burke donning on a fake beard with quite the same gusto as Smith.

Her MC Hammer pants are the new turban in Sunset, ripe for good natured teasing but we all miss it when it's gone! And yes, before I'm attacked, I know they are harem style trousers, and no, teasing about a silly costume isn't sexist, racist, body shaming or anything else I missed 😁

I'll just add one thing, and sorry if too personal for a place like this. I won't be seeing the show. It is the last show me and my best friend saw together, before she died suddenly a few weeks later. She loved the show, especially Jac Yarrow, and I think it would just be too painful to experience again.

It could also be a nice thing to do as it would bring back some happy memories of your time as friends. But I can understand if it would be too difficult for you.

Sorry, yesterday I was in a fowl mood and my post was very subjective, literally sh!tty This is an interesting point, actually. I wonder how many times our mood dictates our enjoyment (or otherwise!) of a piece. I've gone into things after a busy/bad day and really enjoyed them, and the opposite. It really hammers home how subjective opinions on art are to personal circumstance as well as taste. Some things I've watched and gone "very nice, but not meant for me". There's a lot to be said for having foresight and sharing why a piece or performer is "good" or "bad" in ones opinion. Target demographic is a bigger thing than ever in theatre, with so much media being created for specific markets.
