I finally saw the show last week. It was cheesy. It was like a panto. It was hammed up like mad. The costumes were questionable. The scenery looked shakey. Safe to say, I loved it! ☺ The story has been done to death, it is definitely time for something new and the previous version is still on tour of the UK. I thought Sheridan was sublime and her singing was great. Jac was such a real surprise and such a likeable guy. A huge future in musical theatre ahead I am sure. Jason was just Jason... The audience lapped it up. I was happy. Nonsense. It’s was stunning, and 2.5k x 12 weeks adored it. I can’t wait to see it back, and kick the dreadful tour off the road You've got me all wrong. I loved this new version. It's the older version ie children sat on the stairs throughout, that I am bored with.

So this has sold out the behemoth London Palladium for 10 weeks, which is no mean feat, I wonder what made this a sell out?
Was it the piece itself. People after a bit of nostalgia from seeing this, when they were younger People not seeing it and regretting it (that’s me) Seeing Jason Donovan in his infamous musical again Seeing Sheridan Smith
Or could it be a mixture of all the above?

Personally, I think it was due to the nature of the show appearing in the West End again. Plus, it's a show that doesn't cause anyone any harm. I genuinely believe that had Shreidan & Jason not been in it, it still would have sold out.

^Thanks,tbfl...yes,I was thinking exactly the same about this poster myself strangely enough...also a bit weird and creepy to resurrect posts that I made six or seven weeks ago...
also calling shady23’s comments ‘nonsense’ is beyond the pale imo...

I think all of the above plus the great choice of venue. A trip to the Palladium is always something a little special!

I have this weird instinctual feeling that Jac will play Marius at some point soon, I thought about it when I saw Joseph! Give the kid a break! Don’t damn his career before he’s had a chance!

So I went to the last two shows. There was not inconsiderable hysteria at both with crying at curtain call and everyone on their feet before the first "give me my coloured coat."
There were three mid show standing ovations from certain areas of the stalls on Sunday - to me it felt not as it was amazing (although it was) but as that is what the X Factor generation do.
Anyway enjoyed this version enough to go 7 times which I guess tells you what you need to know. And I loved it for what it was.
And of course its not either/or re liking this version of the 90s one - both were great. But for reasons I've posted before, for me the 90s version cannot be topped.
So we'll see what happens next. I also wonder how much of the sales were due to Joseph and how much due to Sheridan and Jason - I expect too much for my liking the latter. I wonder if the powers that be will want them both to reprise their roles if and when it returns. I am hoping for a classic MT Narrator and a pop star Joseph personally.....

Lots of speculation about what Jac will do next.
He's just been announced as doing panto in Birmingham (Snow White). So his panto skills from Joseph will be put to good use.

Qdos? Did they move Joe McElderry? Joe’s playing the mirror spirit or something (and Jac’s playing the Prince)

if you do panto, do you make more money than a west end show because you are doing 10 shows/week?

Not surprised at all it is coming back, after it was a sell out.
Surprised it is coming back again for such a short season, would ha w thought this would run from April to October and do 6 months this time.

Interesting schedule! After press night: Weds-Sat Eves Matinees Weds/Sat Double matinee day Sunday (1pm and 5pm) Identical to Starlight in Bochum. Ideal (for the customer) schedule for a family show. Less so for the actors doing a 4 show weekend! Anyway, glad it’s back. Also surprised it’s not doing longer. Whilst I eventually warmed to her, really hoping it’s not Sheridan. And as for people suggesting Schofe as Pharaoh. My God. At least JD vaguely was a singer in the past.... Let it sell out on MT talent I say.

Didn't manage to catch it this time round so booked for next year....are we expecting SS and JD to be back do we think? Was it a sell out because of them?

We’ve got our tickets sorted for first and last night so very happy here 🙂
I’m sure they’ll be an announcement in time about who is in it, but it’ll sell well again purely because of the show.
