Have to admit when I saw the announcement, the classic TV show in Pantomime form at the London Palladium could be an interesting Christmas theatre trip.

John Barrowman was forced to pull out of the Bristol Hippodrome panto. His replacement? Robert Rinder! Honestly I am asking for a refund, or at least a credit voucher, that is not even close to a like for like replacement.

When did pantos get so expensive? Was looking at the Theatre Royal Bath, for a family of us in the stalls at £40 each is damn near £200! Entertainment for the masses? Not at those prices! Time was you could see a decent panto for twenty quid a head or less.

Just seen Berwick Kaler's return to panto in Dick Turpin Rides Again at the Grand Opera House in York. There is a magic you don't get at any other panto. The roar that greeted Berwick as he came on tore the roof off and his wit was in full force. Suzy Cooper, Martin Barrass and David Leonard were wonderful, making each other laugh. The whole thing was joyous.

I usually do about 4 to 6 in the Midlands but with current case rates will unlikely risk doing any as most finish by early Jan.

This year I've seen Aladdin at Winchester Theatre Royal, Pantoland at the Palladium (Twice) and have Cinderella at the Mayflower next Sunday (plus Peter Pan at Mayflower Studios the same day!) I made it to all 4 Christmas shows I had planned this year and with everything going on I’m so grateful! The three pantos were all so different in scale. I loved the Palladium panto of course, the scale is immense and I don’t think I’d have ever got the chance to see Donny otherwise. Cinderella at the Mayflower had great stars as well as that local spin, references to suburbs that I’m sure the celebs didn’t get but the audience certainly did. Even if it doesn’t move the story on I love one of The Twins FX’s flying sensations. Then Aladdin at Theatre Royal Winchester was a proper local panto. No celebs but names that you recognise from pantos past. I used to sneak in a post Christmas visit for another panto within travelling distance, not sure that will happen this year but I certainly intend to get more booked in next year.

Is anyone else watching the 'pantomime' on BBC2? I don't understand the point of it at all. It isn't a pantomime. It isn't a show. Celia Imrie is clearly reading her lines. There's no audience. It's bizarre.

Isn't it a fundraiser for Comic Relief?

Isn't it a fundraiser for Comic Relief? Yes. I just thought they might have filmed it in a theatre while restrictions allowed.

Palladium panto very full but that was early in the run, I did get a nicely discounted solo seat for my second visit. My Winchester ticket was actually one a friend couldn't use as he was ill. A few empty seats around. Peter Pan had some empty seats, awkwardly around 6 empty next to me in the front row which may have been a family who decided not to come. Cinderella looked quite full but I know the group next to me had all dropped out bar one and some (friends or family) had taken up the offer of a last minute ticket but still only 4 of their 6 seats were filled.

All pantos in Wales shutting from Boxing Day. I was wondering if the same rules applied to these as Sporting events.

Theatre Royal Stratford East has had to cancel the remainder of their run, but Red Riding Hood, is streaming from now until December 29th. BSL and Closed Captioning versions are also available. I really enjoyed the show earlier on in the run, plus it’s a musical with fully original songs. www.stratfordeast.com/whats-on/all-shows/red-riding-hood-online
