That was actually from 2017 during the 75th anniversary of the Dieppe Raid but it's resurfaced as it seems appropriate given that the President of the United States has cancelled an Armistice event in France because of the weather. A glorious speech nonetheless.

We can have all these rows, spats and ideological arguments with each other over Brexit, the health service, bin collections, musical theatre shows- you name it - because of the men and women who suffered, fought and died in two World Wars. We can argue about that too.

An emotive, if sparsely attended Not About Heroes At Wilton’s this afternoon, Sassoon and Owen, the men behind the Poetry.
To hear the Poems within the context they were written enhanced their power as the men try to cope with the insanity all around them as they convalesce with their broken bedfellows in Craiglockhart and their return to the Front.
......sad truth in reality we have, we pay lip service every November and then the jingoism of nationalism and our ‘deluded’ past is stirred and off we go again.
I believe the next war, nowadays called interventions is planned for a week on Wednesday as soon as the popular press have Identified the next Country that may have looked at us funny and we need a distraction from a domestic crisis.

We were at the one on Ynyslas beach. The portrait was of a local Merchant Navy sailor. It was lovely to see several children involved, especially one young girl who seemed to do most of the work! Something she might not fully appreciate now but I hope she will feel great pride in, in years to come.

Having just watched the BBC’s They Shall Not Grow Old, I thought this was an excellent programme. The transformation of the footage from B/W to colour really did bring home the horrendous conditions that the soldiers had to endure while on the battlefield.
