Hi, that's my question -- any highly recommended comedy, or other really delicious show, in London playing the first week of May? I've already booked for the last night of The Pain Killer; and then for Lawrence After Arabia at the Hampstead. I'd like to fit something else in, too! I prefer the intimate, off-beat shows, not the roaring major productions. What do you think of KEN coming up at Hampstead Downstairs? I know nothing about this subject. Thank you.

I'd recommend Hand to God, although it perhaps doesn't fulfil your request of being "intimate"
It is, however, VERY funny (although, granted, the humour is quite specific)

Maybe The Truth at the Menier Chocolate Factory too.

Phantom -- I was in the Play that Goes Wrong last year -- holding up the shelf. Greatest play ever. My London debut. :-) Thank you for the ideas.

The play about a bank robbery opens this week at the Criterion which I believe will be very funny.
Also as someone else has mentioned The Truth at the Menier which is certainly an intimate theatre.
Not everyone will agree about Hand to God being funny though. I didnt like it at all but others really enjoyed it.

I don't know if you're aware, Michael, but it's entirely possible for someone to not really enjoy a major Broadway musical even though maybe everyone else in the world does.  |

Yes, from my very own experience (even though "not really enjoy" doesn't even come close), I'm very well aware of this fact, but I've learned to not take anything seriously today, that's why I asked. BB could have, after all, only joked. |

Book of Mormon is the funniest thing ever, but humour ticks different boxes for different people, I have seen stuff that is purported to be funny and left stoney faced.
Just to point out as you loved 'The Play That Goes Wrong' as you said Bank Robbery is at the Criterion Theatre and is being done by the same people, so that may raise to near the top now.

I'd say Hand To God too, although it's not really an intimate production (although the Vaudeville is hardly huge). I really really enjoyed it and it was quite different as well.
