Interested to hear on Friday that Ian isn’t quite as impressed by the whole Sondheim mass love-in that seems to be de rigeur these days too (three cheers for Alan Bennett!😝)

Anyone know what Stands Films is? It's on the prop box, can't find it online. All the other things on the box are theatres so I am curious. I'll search through the programme at some point to see if it is in there somewhere. Wonder if it's the production company for filming it or something, or is it just a prop?

Just back from seeing Sir Ian at the Theatr Hafren in Newtown and what a special evening it was. I doubt if this theatre has ever had anything like this before and probably never will again. A really entertaining programme and how he will keep this up for the entire tour I don’t know. At the end of the evening he was shaking the bucket for donations and then signing programmes. So nice to see quite a lot of children there, probably because of his role as Gandalf, but hopefully will inspire them to go to live theatre, especially after his story of how he wanted to be involved in theatre.

It was finally my turn tonight - at Aylesbury Waterside - and well worth the wait. A thoroughly enjoyable evening and he's still shaking the bucket for donations (and I assume signing programmes - I didn't hang about) afterwards. It felt fresh and surprisingly intimate given the size of the Waterside. The young man next to me put his hand up when the opportunity arose to go up on stage and it turned out he was visiting from Finland. Trip, quite possibly life, made right there! PS moelhywel - spotted the Theatr Hafren sticker on the prop box. I was last there in 2014 (OK, that was the only time I was there - though I did spent a fair bit of time near Newtown as a teenager!). |

I reckon Sir Ian is having a whale of a time according to friends of mine who have seen this tour from all over the country.Genuinely “giving back” to the theatre world.

According to the ATG website this is going into the Harold Pinter for a full run from Fri 20th Sept until Sun 5th Jan.
Six shows a week:
Tue - Sat 7.30pm
Sun 3pm
Sir Ian must be having fun!

Hope he writes a book about his travels on the tour and all the theatres he has visited...it would be fascinating.

I see from my TV guide that SIMK is one of Graham Norton's guests on Friday night. Of course he could just be there to chat, something he clearly enjoys doing, but 'celebrities' normally appear on that type of programme to publicise something, and there would be little point in publicising a sold out tour!

Think ALL IS TRUE is out on DVD this week and he is involved in the Park Theatre’s WHODUNNIT project or maybe he is talking PRIDE.To be honest he could be reading the telephone directory and it would still be interesting lol.

I just booked O6 for this in the stalls for a tenner. Great price! I know there’re a pillar to the side but I assume it’ll be fine from looking at the photos on seatplan!

Just risked a Stalls N7 for £10. The Monkey has this as a "green" seat despite the pillar in view and I suspect it won't be a problem for this production.
Looks to be selling quickly.

Tickets booked for the matinee (at 12.00???) on 1st November. I sat in N7 before and it's a great seat. Alas for my performance they were gone already, so I opted for last row Balcony for £10.

The scheduling is a bit odd as it's six shows for the majority but some weeks with only 4 or 5 shows. I think he has press commitments during November for The Good Liar which explains the week with only three shows.
I wonder if they'll rework the show for the West End run.

I think also he has declared it is 80 shows, so they can give him a few days to make that number work and let him rest, perhaps. There’s a 12pm performance on the 1st November so i think they’re working around his commitments. |
