I am not sure there is anything about typical staging for The Light in The Piazza that requires a big house. I saw it several times at Lincoln Center and in some regional production houses that were much smaller. They all worked.

I love Alex Jennings, I love the score, I have nothing particular against Renee Fleming, I'm even fairly fond of Dove Cameron, but the prices for this show are obscene and Adam Guettel is not a nice person to a degree that I'm uncomfortable following him as an artist anymore because of his personal politics (which SUCKS because I love his music but I can only go so far when it comes to separating the art from the artist). Why would they make this harder for me than it is by casting Alex Jennings for heaven's sake?

I'm looking forward to seeing this in June. I shall have to listen to the music first because I can't imagine it as a musical (I really like the film)

He seems to believe that anti-white racism is a thing, he came out in favour of Brett Kavanaugh stating that Dr Christine Blasey Ford lacked credibility, and by his own admission he has been - at the VERY least - unkind to women over the years. So he's probably been not-great for years but I just can't get past his thinking that "Christine Blasey Ford's timing is very suspicious" is a take worth not only having but also worth stating in public, that was a very difficult period for a lot of us. EDIT: this link possibly worth a read on the subject: www.theintervalny.com/editorial/2018/09/on-adam-guettel-silence-and-the-fear-of-nothingness/

I didn't know that about Adam Guettel - that's disturbing. :/
Count me as another potential audience member who was looking forward to this and then got totally deterred by the obscene prices.

Was interested in this anyway but Alex Jennings makes it even more attractive. However I'm also waiting on discounts. Tickets sales look poor, unsurprisingly, but maybe the RFH doesn't discount?

I've got the impression that this production is going to the States after it's done in London, so maybe they don't care so much about ticket sales as long as they get some good press they can take with them?

They do - for instance timeout had discounts for Circus 1903 at the Festival Hall last year. Although I guess it may depend on the producer of an individual show?

God I am trash for Alex Jennings. Damnit. But I am also trying not to support utter trashbag artists (generally if it's not their PERSONAL show I'm less fussy, but god he's a bit of a dirtbag isn't he?)

Mr Guettel seems to be a very 'complex' man. The thing I can't get my head around if he actually is as portrayed (and he didn't do himself ANY favours with that tweet), how on earth did Tina Landau (fabulous & highly political left wing feminist director/writer) manage to work alongside him to create the masterpiece that is Floyd Collins? Maybe Mr Guettel had a personality change since that collaboration? Also when I saw him in concert at The Hippodrome a few years ago (with Caroline Sheen and a couple of others whose names escape me), he seemed an utterly lovely chap. Very strange indeed (maybe he's just very good at playing that part?). I would have thought in this day and age, there may be quite a few artists who may not want to collaborate with him after that tweet though. I guess it's part of the on-going debate about whether it's possible to separate a person's views/deeds from their art.

The sad truth is that a lot of views and behaviour have been legitimised, in some American’s eyes, by the election of Trump. If there is any use in him it’s been to reveal those who share in his hate, even if the sheer prevalence of it is so dispiriting. As Sun Tzu said in ‘The Art of War’ - “If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle”.

You're right about Trump, but I'd like to think that the majority of artists working in theatre don't concur with his toxic viewpoint. Maybe that's a generalisation, but thankfully in my years of working in theatre and TV, I've never come across anyone who espoused that vile sexism/racism. Maybe I've just been fortunate in who I've worked with.I just can't believe someone like Tina Landau would put up with that sort of thing for a second.

The discount for Universal Credit is such an insult. An absolute joke. Its making me angry. I agree. My mum is on UC and she is strugggling to eat and pay her bills. I could just about buy a £67 ticket with my AMEX and I am in full time work. An absolute low.
