Hopefully the cast recording will have the sound mixed properly. When will sound engineers in theatres understand that you are supposed to mix the microphones for the singers so that the lyrics are clear and intelligible? At the matinee recently I was in stalls centre row B and found that much of the mixing was such that everything was amplified to roughly the same level so that frequently lyrics were lost in the wall of sound. Even when it was just a singer and violin these were at the same level so that not all the words were clear.
Oops, I seem to have gone off on a rant! But does annoy me when the performers and director have put so much into a production to have it spoilt by badly mixed sound.

I really enjoyed this - definitely my favourite musical to open this season. It reminded me of Once. Yes, there is a lot of narration but the performances were great and the music was lovely. That was an evening I won’t get back.
The story concept is just a bridge too far to have any sort of impact. And the saccharine narration doesn’t help.
Can’t see this surviving.

After seeing "The Pirates of Penzance" at Wiltons (Great fun BTW) at the weekend where no microphones were used at all - to be fair there was only a piano in the way of an orchestra - but it does make you wonder if over amplification is needed in smaller venues?
Is it a "catch 22" where because the orchestra/band is miked the company has to be to be to be heard.
Bearing in mind theatres were originally built for sound to carry.

The dying art of vocal projection and over reliance on microphones. The night I went to CCBB some in the cast were incredibly clear and others were almost impossible to hear. With hindsight it was less of a mic issue and more the difference being the ones who were clearly projecting into the audience could be heard. |

Absolutely adored this on Monday, despite the sound not being great. Thought John was utterly fantastic. Just totally fell in love with it, and will be heading back for another visit as soon as possible.

I've got to add to the pile on. I thought this was gorgeous. I'm now sorry I didn't see it in one of its previous smaller iterations but it still works beautifully in this venue.

Is it really very expensive compared to most of the West End? I'd say it's the opposite. But even if they were charging through the roof, the answer would be yes, it's worth it. |

Tickets are v expensive - is it worth it? Not that expensive in comparison to other West End shows... but of course it still is expensive with how things are nowadays.
There's rush tickets at £30 at 10am on the TodayTix app. They're not that hard to get!
I've yet to see it but any show is worth seeing.

Todaytix rush is £30, it goes fairly quickly but I've managed to get a ticket in my basket a few times at 10am. And yes, it's absolutely worth it. |
