Trying to imagine the planning meetings that went into this venture.Extortionate prices, very little name-recognition of this show with the man or woman in the street and arguably a one-song show.Sound like a money-spinning smash-hit? No,me neither. As for Kelsey Grammer?Well,in 2006 Channel 4 ran a huge public poll and Frasier was voted the greatest sit-com of all time, but this show is not Frasier-The Musical. Will tourists rock up and book this? Even if it ends up on TKTS or TODAYTIX,will anyone even want to see it if other shows are available? I think it is a very niche show and is very rarely staged professionally simply because it does not have mass- market appeal,I believe.Watched the clip posted here and not convinced that Kelsey Grammer will carry the lead with any kind of prowess.I will probably get the cheapest ticket possible to cross it off my list.

I went to see Sunset, Oklahoma and Chess but this does not appeal at all, although I would like to see Cassidy.

Lovetheatre.com has the Dress Circle side view tickets reduced from £65 to £35 for a few performances, currently April 29th, May 1st -both matinee and evening- and May 2nd. Sadly, that is just a "no booking fee" offer like the rest. That is the price of those tickets. Oh well. Check carefully and you'll see what I mean. Dress Circle side view tickets are priced £65 for most performance, but if you check the dates I mentioned the exact same seats are only £35.

I just found strange that some days the same tickets are priced £65 and some others just £35. At first I thought it was to do with having a different leading lady, but I checked the cast in the ENO website and doesn't seem to be the case. Maybe they are starting some kind of dynamic pricing?

This also like carousel sunset B only other grade linnet show I’ve seen is a fully staged production with the orchestra in the pit. Just seen the model box and photos for the set, won’t say anything more, as its confidential ..but think as epic and similar to bat out of hell....
Maybe that’s why tickets are so high?!? And potential west end transfer...
#dominion who knows
Edit- I know this thread has now become a page of unhappiness and talk about ticket prices and casting (...but hold your breath)

Don’t think any true theatre fan would ever want any production to fail before it has even launched as we are dealing with the livelihood of performers, musicians, stage crew etc,etc who have bills to pay and rent to find. Not to mention huge production costs, damaged reputations and so on.I think this thread has tried to point out to the producers of this show that this show could end up as a complete turkey and we are attempting to bring our combined knowledge and love of this genre to try and respectfully suggest how this rarely-staged show can succeed in the very competitive West End.Glad to hear that the set/staging/orchestra will be on an epic scale.I may be completely wrong(and usually am) but the cavernous Dominion sounds like an impossible dream...Sorry......(aside) “Start the car!”

Pointing out the true facts I know, and not based on any casting or money figures People on here seem to doom a show before its open based on preference. (which ofcourse is totally fine),all I’m saying we shall all see. People thought a lot of shows or casting would fail and they ended being pleasantly surprised. (I’m not saying no ones right or wrong..I very much stress that.) but everyone’s needs hold there breath. I’m probably very wrong as well!! But what do I know...

Also, though model boxes can look epic, they don't always convert to an epic show. Much of the comment here has been on the weakness of the script/ score and the lack of any real sense of demand for this revival on this scale.

There are many wonderful aspects of Man Or LaMancha.
For this presentation, the producers are looking for something that can be produced simply on a grand stage.
I've seen it produced on a large proscenium stage and in the round. It works in both environments. All you need is a grand entrance ramp and a few set pieces.
My turn off with this production is Kelsey Grammer. I'm not interested in seeing him on stage or television.
A prior post said they saw the show in NY. That must of been Raul Julia and Sheena Eastern. I avoided that production as Raul, while hispanic, can't sing and Sheena Eastern was stunt casting.
Ultimately, it will be easy to produce with production values coming from lights and costumes, but I'll be content with the OBC recording.

I actually quite like some of the numbers- Knight of the Woeful Countenance especially. But I don't want to hear KG amateur warble. It was funny in Frasier. Don't expect me to take it seriously, Yum-yum!

I got bored reading the show synopsis on wiki, which doesn’t bode well from my perspective. It does seem like an odd choice with an odd choice of lead.

Don’t think any true theatre fan would ever want any production to fail before it has even launched That's why I asked about it, because on this thread there seem to be a few people who are almost willing this to fail before it's even started its run, taking glee in the slow ticket sales. Sure, the show is not a well known one and maybe they should have tried it at a smaller venue, but I'm willing to give it a try. As for Kelsey, the only people I know who have actually booked it in advance did so because of him. His casting may not be popular with ardent musical fans but this show would be on far fewer people's radars where it not for him. At least that's my perception.

The main issue I think is the choice of show for this venue. It is a show with little or no UK awareness or following (other than people knowing The Impossible Dream - without knowing which show it comes from) There isn't a name who could realistically play the title role and sell enough seats to justify being in a theatre of this size. It is a show that was conceived as a relatively small scale chamber piece - and again it will be swamped in a venue of this size. It is an ill-conceived project from start to finish. Grammer would - to my mind - be a far better choice for Sancho - he doesn't have the scale of voice necessary to fill the space as Don Q. I just think the producers got this wrong at every point in the decision-making process. Talented people are going to get lost in a show that is not going to succeed. I agree with all this. I'm just interested in who the people here critical of the casting would cast instead, assuming the production and venue are a given.

I haven't seen a single comment that expresses the view that they want this to fail.
People have raised legitimate concerns about :
The choice of this particular piece The scale of the show compared to the size of the venue The casting of the lead roles The lack of awareness of the piece with UK audiences The pricing of the tickets
This is not willing it to fail - it is discussing the reasons why it will struggle to find audiences.
The people to blame are the producers - not the cast or crew - and certainly not people who are commenting on the actions of the producers.

It's pretty difficult to accurately read tone in written text; if you're reading "glee" in people's comments on the slow ticket sales, you might want to look a little closer to home than the words on the screen.

Everyone is totally entitled to opinions and tastes. I’m open to all sorts of castings!but People are even moaning about Chichester leads (when it was first announced) as they don’t excite them or big enough, but yet when it is stunt casting which I fully agree can or cannot work people are still having problems - you can’t win. . We all just need hold are breath and go watch it for ourselves: . I don’t believe many people on this board of you are a true theatre fan want shows to fail, but that’s how things are coming across, maybe it’s the way it’s worded! Ofcourse I’m probably very wrong... #whatdoIknow

I came into some money today and decided to take the plunge and go see this in May - £35 for front row balcony, what’s the worst that could happen? (I’m not mad enough to pay the prices they are asking for the lower levels though)

It's a terrific venue and Peter Polycarpou and Danielle de Niese (or Cassidy Janson) should be great at least.

Prices HAD to come down but trouble is other shows have been announced since this was and people have now possibly committed their ‘spends’ to different ventures. The horse/donkey has bolted! Why don’t producers ‘pile them high and sell them cheap’ or cheaper when it comes to seats and thus generate real impetus and momentum. The Waitress producers are in the same boat and it’s sinking fast.

I value the ENO enormously and of course wish every production well. This one, however, I don't understand and it makes me worry for the decision making process at ENO. If there was a transfer planned or it was somehow underwritten ... as it is, it's almost shades of The Producers. In my opinion.

The One Show right now. They've threatened to perform at the end of the programme! A complete car crash! So they turned Impossible Dream into a duet in the hope that Kelsey’s dreadful vocal could be disguised!
