I’m back at the diner for a fourth visit tonight especially to see Sarah O’Connor as Jenna. I remember seeing Sarah as the Mistress in Evita nearly 3 years ago when I was pretty new to theatregoing and I was stunned by her voice, she was one of the highlights of the show. Seeing her now leading my second favourite musical is going to be a special full-circle moment.

I know this isn’t just a Waitress thing.

Sarah is fantastic, maybe my favourite Jenna out of the three (not seen Olivia). This is the quickest I’ve been back but it feels like a whole new show with Sarah. David changes up his portrayal a bit when she’s on too. Sandra’s great too, very different Becky to Marisha. More later!

Hearing that the new show for the Adelphi will be announced at the end of the week for August onwards. I guess one final extension for Waitress seems likely.

Now that both productions (Broadway & West End) are closing... film this with Sara and Gavin!

Being fair, 18 months is WAY longer than I originally thought this show would manage

I wonder if Waitress could possibly transfer to a smaller theatre to make way for Dolly? It seems to be doing better now and they’ll probably keep stunt casting and of course we all agreed from the start it could thrive more in a smaller theatre. I know it’s probably not very likely but it’s possible depending on theatre availability.

I know it’s probably not very likely but it’s possible depending on theatre availability. Can't see it - sales only really reached cost covering levels with Joe Sugg. Looking at the plans now is once again very poorly sold with Upper generally closed. They'd need a decent (in terms of sales obvs, not ability) stunt cast to limp on past February....

Yeah I think it’d be unlikely for Waitress to move venues. If it does close in July a year and a half run at the Adelphi i think would be a decent run considering I think it’s always been in too large a theatre for the show it is! I guess we’ll never know how long it coulda run for in a smaller venue but of course that’s only one factor in what makes a show a success or not.

It will be a shame if it closes but I'm glad I saw it twice while it has been on.

And a tour... surprising! I expect big stunt casting for that, and then a planned return to the West End.

A 17 month run is pretty good and should well on tour.

Lots of dates! And an intent to return to the West End following the tour.

“Prior to returning to the West End”. Really? Really? I’ve no doubt it will EVENTUALLY but I’m sure we could survive 10 years of new shows before that happens.

The show has lost a bit of its original sparkle for me since the OG days but I’m still sad to see this closing. But 18 months is a good stint. I mean, doomsayers we’re claiming it was gonna close after the first 3 months! 😜 I assume Lucie and Daid will be closing out the show then for the last 3 months?
I think the tour should do well! I’m sure they’ll probably stunt cast Jenna like others have said, so I really hope they cast a Jenna who can sing, and sing really well. You can get away with not having a great voice for Ogie and maybe Dawn, but def not Jenna!
