Another lesson in why these theatre pages shouldn't post anything until it is officially confirmed. Do a lot of these theatre news sites and say the newspaper columns like Baz get casting details which might be "embargoed" until a set date?

I think the online theatre fandom needs to just take a moment, have a chocolate hob nob and settle down.

Love it when one fangirl gets a rumour going and it spreads like wildfire! In other news Marisha's concert is tonight at The Other Palace. Would've been there if I didn't already have plans today. Last few tickets here; Marisha Concert I would go just to hear this version of Britney Spears' Lucky http://instagr.am/p/Bxak5BDjIlh

I saw Lucie in Waitress yesterday and I was really impressed. She has a beautiful voice and her SUTBM gave me goosebumps - the show is definitely in safe hands when Kat leaves!. That being said I really want to see Katharine again before she goes, maybe it's because she was the first Jenna I saw, but I adore her performance, and I've seen comments about how she doesn't show much emotion but I didn't have any problems with her performance. Two great Jennas. Also Laura is just brilliant and if the casting rumours are true then I may have to give the show a miss for a little while!

I think that it needs to be said that, since they started doing TodayTix, all 3 levels are open and the stalls seemed full both times I went (Sarah's debut and Lucie's second date.)
Having seen all three Jennas I have to say that my favourite is by far Sarah. Her voice is incredible and she gives a very interesting, multi-layered performance. She felt like a 'baby Jenna' in the beginning but as the show went on that wasn't a bad thing at all, the story really works for someone of a younger age. The only thing she needs to work on is her accent, I could hear her Irish accent in many lines, and I'm not an expert in any of these two accents.
It's really unfair to judge Lucie based on the circumstances, but I would say that she's far from "there" yet, which is understandable. Her vocals are good (especially SYTBM), even though too nasal for my liking in certain songs, but she needs much more time to feel comfortable on stage, she was quite awkward and didn't have much chemistry with any of her co-stars. I wasn't a fan of some of her riffs in SYTBM (Sarah also riffed but it was much more controlled and faithful to the original), but it was still good, unlike the atrocious riff-fest that's taking place on Broadway right now. She has the potential of being a really good Jenna one day, but I think she needs more time and effort, the role is much more than the big song, even though sometimes it seems like that's all that matters. With regards to KMP, whether you like her acting or not, she has really made the role her own (unsurprisingly, considering she's been playing it for a while), and that's something I appreciated even more seeing the other 2 Jennas.

She has insane vocals, but her entire thing is being this riff queen (which she undoubtedly is) so when she got cast as Jenna my initial reaction was “is that gonna work?”, because I feared she was just gonna go completely overboard with SUTBM and the other songs, and having listened to a vocal of SUTBM on YouTube she totally does lol! I just think it doesn’t fit with the character of Jenna however you portray her and sometimes less is more. Of course I know it’s unfair to base an opinion on a vocal because it might totally fit in the context of the entire show and how she plays Jenna. What’s funny is that when Kat was cast to be Jenna on Broadway I thought she would be really riffy too because her natural style is quite R&B and full of vocal runs, but she actually sings the score pretty straight in the show and sticks to the original melody (although I noticed in the latest recording from last week she’s thrown a few more subtle riffs in there too lol). I guess that fits with her Jenna portrayal though because she plays a very beaten down stoical Jenna. Jessie and Sara too stayed very faithful to the melody in the shows I saw. Its definitely super interesting to see how each actress approaches the role and their own spin they put on things. I’ve loved all the Jennas I’ve seen for various reasons but of course everyone’s going to have one performer or one performance of the show that particularly resonates with you. I think someone’s experience is also totally dependable on your own mood on the night, as well as the particular overall casting, because some actors just work better with others. For example, when I last saw Kat on Broadway they’d brought in Henry (?) to play Dr P for a couple weeks after Erich Bergen left and he just seemed too young for Kat (she pretty much ate him alive in Bad Idea 😆) and I just didn’t feel much chemistry between them, but she has great chemistry with David Hunter. I was really hoping to see Sarah as Jenna this week (knowing that I’ve got loads of chances to see Lucie when she starts properly) so I’ll just have to hope I get a chance at some point. Sorry this ended up being a tl,dr but at least it’s us chatting about the show and not marketing drama 🤷🏻♀️😜

Sorry this ended up being a tl,dr but at least it’s us chatting about the show and not marketing drama 🤷🏻♀️😜 Yes, unfortunately I am referring to her. I don't doubt that she's a good singer in certain genres (I don't think musical theatre is one of them) but I find her to be a horrible Jenna, based on multiple full audios of hers I've heard and a video I've seen. Of course riffing a little bit to make the role your own is totally fine, but you are still have to deliver a song the way it was written, and just like you're not supposed to change your lines (I mean as much as fans are enjoying slight changes, for example, in Wicked, when an Elphaba at her last show says "For the last time I feel Wicked", it's still wrong imo) there are people in the audience that are watching the show for the first time and deserve to hear it the way it was intended to. I liked that the Wicked team used to be strict on riffs (I suppose this rule doesn't really apply now cause, uhm, Alice Fearn). Shoshana can be a riff queen at a concert or a Youtube cover, when everyone is expecting a twist in an overdone song, but not while playing Jenna on stage. I do think that's the reason why she doesn't have many Broadway credits in her bio and I doubt that she will have a lot more after Waitress. In my opinion, her vocal type doesn't suit the role at all (her WBCD is really poorly sung, she uses weak falsetto in parts where she's supposed to belt the heck out of it and that really threw me off), and I think she purely got the role because she is Shoshana and wouldn't have gotten anywhere near it had she auditioned. Yes, I get what you mean with the chemistry of Kat and Henry Gottfried. However I have to mention that I find the main Broadway Pomatter understudy, Brandon Kalm, really horrendous, and I don't understand why he still plays the role. A friend of mine saw him with Nicolette and didn't like any of them, and she found the show really weak overall, and fortunately she gave it another chance here and she loved both KMP and David. I think you might have chance of catching Sarah on Monday or Tuesday. Btw Lucie's SYTBM aired on Magic Radio and it was really good. The orchestra was amazing as well.

andrew yeah I’m with you on preferring it when the actors stick to the melody (or thereabouts) - it kind of feels like these days performers just want to show off too much with their vocal ability rather than just being faithful to the show and story and character. I can’t speak for Wicked so much because I’ve only ever seen it once about 5 years ago! But it’s a good point about someone seeing the show for the first time, and expecting to see it how it was supposed to be sung! Haha yes it was Brandon Kalm who I thought I was going to see! I was hoping to see Kat and Erich originally but got my dates wrong on when he was leaving doh! I don’t know much about Brandon other than him being super cute lol! So maybe I dodged a bullet then! 😬😜 Henry did have a great voice though I have to say, best of all the Dr Ps I’ve seen. I also saw Kat with Drew Gehling and they were great together too. Sara’s chemistry with Chris Diamantopoulos was only okay for me. I feel like he’s the forgotten Dr P! 😆 I would have liked to have seen Nicolette but didn’t get a chance. I personally don’t think she has the vocal prowess of the other Jennas but from what I’ve read she gave a real vulnerability to the role (and I’m sure the fact that she’s the only mum irl impacted on that too). Thanks - I’ll wait and see who’s on this week and Jenna and see about booking.

Correct me if wrong, but didn't she have a partner of whom died in the 9/11 attacks which told her to only originate/notable parts on Broadway which is why she didn't do much after Wicked. Jenna's a great role and I imagine the pay-packet is lovely. She's been involved with Beaches workshops and productions, in hopes she'll go to originate on Broadway with it. She done Fanny Brice at a regional theatre, and other than that I think she's done well just singing and gigging. I might have this mixed up, but I'm sure I read this once.

Or go tkts any help appreciated 👍😋 If I was you I would take your chances at getting a rush ticket on todaytix, especially if it’s just you. They seem to be selling a lot right now so I reck your chances are pretty good, and they’re offering really good seats too for £25 👍 Then if you miss out I’m sure there’ll still be decent tickets available. Not sure what your budget is.

Re the Ashley Roberts thing, maybe Waitress are following Jamie's lead and getting in "names" on short term contracts.

I love how they call it a “formal cast announcement”, I guess the informal one was when Lucie’s face appeared in Times Square 3 months ago!
