Slightly off-topic, but rather than create a separate "Fiddler" thread under International - The Yiddish-language production in New York, currently at the Museum of Jewish Heritage and slated to transfer to off-Broadway's Stage 42 in February, was, I thought, marvelous. I’m over in Feb, I hope the run is extended so I can get to see it

Anyone noticed on the website it asks if you want to be updated with news of a transfer? Wouldn't surprise me if it's already booked in, dependant on reviews I imagine. Perhaps a nice fit for The Playhouse after Caroline, or Change? They are definitely working on this transferring.

I forgot to mention earlier that Andy Nyman, as Tevye, was the spitting image of the music director of the Royal Opera, Antonio Pappano. OK Pappano doesn't have heard but he actually even sounded like him!

Sunday in the Park, Night Music, Charity, Merrily, Funny Girl all transferred within a month or so of closing at the Chocolate Factory. Only La Cage waited until the October. So this could be a fast transfer indeed if they intend to bring it in

I've been unlucky lately in seeing productions which haven't transferred as well as the reviews of the original production suggest. On top of that I'm a big fan of Mr Nyman and he may not be in a transfer. Also I think the intimacy of the Menier would be lovely for this specific show. There's some very soft touching moments which i'd put my money on losing themselves in a bigger venue. All of that plus I love dinner and a show at the Chocolate Factory!

They've released a couple of tickets for every date - seem to be two single seats A55 and C56 for each day. Also quite a few premium seats available for this weekend

Ooooh, for those of you who like a fiddle on the roof some production photos have been released. There's Stewart Clarke looking like he's getting ready to head to one of those nightclub's in Berlin, Andy Nyman and a beard and tallits and kippahs as far as the eye can see. Plus Judy Kuhn is back in London baby and she's rocking a tichel. Oy vey! Other people are in it too. Ah Shabbat-a You Face

They’ve confirmed the run time as 2 hours 50 on the website so matinees will finish at 6:20 and evening shows at 10:50. Crazy start time for this
As a result I’ve swapped for a Sunday matinee (picked one of the weekends I’m not officiating at Evensong) - they will exchange tickets despite the website saying they won’t although their £5 fee for doing this seems a bit excessive compared to other theatres

There actually was some denim in the Liverpool Everyman one, but only in the very last scene.

Andy Nyman is an incredible Tevye. I've seen him in a few Menier productions, and he's been radiantly likeable in every production, playing likeable beta-males in "Terrible Advice" and "Abigail's Party," the only likeable person on stage in those lascerating productions. And then, in "Assassins," he was the most likeable assassin, his Charles Guiteau just pipping Carly Bawden's Squeaky Fromme to the post, proving that his likeability is stuck to him like glue. So the question with his Tevye is not whether he could be likeable and beta-male, but tough and alpha-male, when his traditions are pressed to breaking point. And I'm delighted to say, he can, and he does, and he's brilliant. And for that reason, the Chichester one is lucky it did not transfer and try to compete with this "Fiddler," because as funny and well-performed as Omid Djalili's Tevye was, he came nowhere near to expressing the all-round family man torn-between-love-and-tradition believable lovable reality that Nyman attains here. He is as much a gravitational anchor to this production as Marcus Brigstocke was a black hole to the Menier's "Barnum." And once you've got a Tevye as right as Nyman is, there's really not much you can do to muck up "Fiddler." The whole ensemble shines, with Judy Kuhn's naive and loveable, yet formidably strong, Golde and Harriet Bunton's unbroken pristine crystalline Hodel extra-special. For me, the set and costumes were more drab than they needed to be (I accept drab is historically accurate), and the room a tad colder than I liked, and the stone floor unappealing also, but that's just personal carping, as I absolutely loved this production, and don't expect to see a better Tevye in my life. 4 and a half stars.

Tempted to buy a ticket now. It's still very expensive considering how uncomfortable the seats are at the Menier.

With the 5* reviews out this morning can we assume that this will try have a run in the west end. I've only seen one 5* review (WOS). Are there others? The consensus seems respectful rather than ecstatic. Time Out (3*) calls it dour!
