Sister Act - UK Tour

I caught this last night in Dublin. I have to say, I was a little nervous given the variety of opinions here. I booked my tickets when the tour was announced initially and before Alexandra was cast as Deloris.

For me, it was a real treat- probably one of the more enjoyable nights I’ve had in the theatre in a long time. I went in ‘blind’ as it were, having not seen it staged previously but I do know the score from the London Cast recording.

Alexandra Burke was marvellous. She has great stage presence. Her voice is exceptional but it was her acting that really surprised me. It’s clear that she puts her absolute all into the performance and it was a huge step up from her role in the Bodyguard, which was a little bland for me. She undoubtedly plays the role in an exaggerated manner, but it fits in with the rest of the production and I really found her very funny throughout. She did well in the softer moments too, in Act II. For me, she is a great example of ‘stunt casting’ done right.

The sisters are brilliant, I particularly liked Susannah Van Den Berg as Sr. Mary Patrick and Sarah Goggin is charming as Sr. Mary Robert. It was a relief when the choir eventually found their ability to hit the right notes!

Jon Robyns is hugely likable as Eddie, and he has good chemistry with Alexandra. He’s charming and I really enjoy the tone of his voice.

The staging is quite simple, but very cleverly put together. Good use of lighting throughout and I appreciated the glitter ball!

The blocking in one or two of the scenes was a little clumsy, but I actually really liked the staging of ‘The Life I Never Led’ and ‘Fabulous Baby, Reprise.’ Curtis’s stooges are terrific, particularly Sandy Grigelis who plays T.J. He drew some of the heartiest laughs from the audience.

Maybe it’s just the Bord Gáis theatre (which is wonderful by the way), but the sound was crisp and the dialogue was perfectly audible throughout.

The cast seemed to be having the time of their lives, which is infectious, and it’s quite something to experience such a talented bunch onstage.

There was a full standing ovation, followed by a sea of smiling faces as we departed. I might try and see if I can get tickets for Belfast when it comes back next year.

Does anybody know if Alexandra comes out to stage door after evening show and if so, how long does she take?

I'm quite surprised to be honest that Alexandra and the cast haven't performed a song on Strictly considering Craig is the director/choreographer of the show!

I met her after the Sister Act show a few months back and she was chatting away, so I don't think that's a constant thing. If she had dodgy vocals after lack of rest, people would complain about that too, so it's impossible to please everyone.

Buying a ticket to a show doesn't entitle somebody to an automatic meet and greet with a performer, whether we pay the performer's wages or not.

I don't disagree with you, my point is that criticizing someone who was on voice rest for not having conversations with fans is not fair.  

As I said, I saw Alexandra a few months back when she was back on form, and she was very chatty and gracious. 

I wonder what stage doors are like in Dubai? Not had any comments for a while. I do miss the stage door rants!

Saw this for the first time tonight, coming in with just knowlage of the film and the score. And I really enjoyed it and had alot of fun! Is it groundbreaking theatre, no, but it doesn't try to be and that makes it all the more fun.

The cast are clearly the highlight and the ensemble numbers bring the house down. Everyones comedic timing is on point and you came to care for each of their characters through how loveble they become. Alexandra is phenomenal, a real talent! She shines so much in this, with incredible vocals, comedic timing and a body that makes all of those outfits look incredible. Myself and @danie, were discussing at the interval whether it was because she wears a habit so much that when she wears the other outfits, it makes them look more incredible, but she looked stunning! Enough to turn a man straight quite frankly!

If you want a fun night out, not too much to think about, just a good time, this is the show for you!

Also, brilliant moment when during the after show speech Jon made a reference to Craig Revel Horward and made a comment about him "always being a top" which had the audience in hysterics and Alexandra practically crying with laughter!

I really want to meet Alexandra after the show but I don't think I'd be able to wait over an hour for get to come out
