My office is quite relaxed. We haven’t said anything but some of the men have been coming in wearing very casual tops. Unfortunately for them our air con is pretty great and now they’re shivering inside. Now I always have a handy cardigan nearby stuffed in a drawer mar my desk, but of course they didn’t think of that.

Been a nightmare trying to sleep all week, think I managed 8 hours all week, last night with the little sleep I had, I kept waking up with terrible cramp in my leg, I suspect because of the heat, when I mentioned this to a colleague suggested that I may sweat a lot of salt? Get one of these! I live in NYC without an air conditioner, but I do have a ceiling fan and a desk fan. This is how I sleep. runnerclick.com/10-best-cooling-towels-reviewed/ |

On the other hand, a couple of days ago I had dinner in a pub where the waitress was complaining about what a pain her long hair was in this heat. That's what a bun is for. I always wear my hair up anyway when I'm out but in hot weather I have it up all day at home too.
Horribly humid today. We had a few rumbles of thunder & 2 brief shows earlier (first rain since mid May!) but it just seems to have made the heat & humidity even worse.

Why would you NOT put your hair up when it's hot?! If not a bun, then a ponytail or two pigtails, or a braid, or something.

So long as you don't wear it up on top of your head when you're sat in front of me in the theatre. Well unless you want to take it home in your handbag when I chop it off of course.  |

Lucky to work in a very casual office - people literally wear shorts/skirts/dresses, t shirts and flip flops. And then freeze, as the aircon is set to high!

That is the last time I travel by train in a heatwave at rush hour. Train was delayed by 20 minutes, and Cross Country didn’t lay on enough carriages, so I was squished against the walls. The air con didn’t seem to be functioning at all either.

Ive done a round trip to London via coach today. In Victoria station they can’t have engines on until they’re leaving. It was 35 degrees on my coach. I now know what hell will feel like when I spend eternity there at least.

It's quite nice to experience the turnabout in the office, not gonna lie. Usually the men turn up in suits and set the air-con to please them, leaving the ladies having to choose between also wearing suits or just shivering all day under a big cardigan. And dresses aren't *entirely* an option in this weather; a lot of offices insist they must be worn with tights, and even sheer ones are a nightmare when it's this hot, and if you're wearing a skirt with no tights, you run the very real risk of chafing, which is something nobody wants. Thank goodness then for linen trousers. Still, this weather is excessively warm, absolutely no reason why the gentlemen can't collectively and politely approach their managers and make a business case for being allowed to wear work-appropriate shorts on days like today. In all but the most conservative work environments (and in those, EVERYONE is wearing a suit more often than not), they should be open to negotiation. I take your word for it on the tights, never worn them myself, but surprised a company could insist on that you must wear them? I have taken to wearing shorts, t shirt and sandals going to and from work and change into trousers, shirt and shoes once there, take a fresh shirt in with me everyday, so refreshing changing when you travelled in by a hot and sticky train and tube. My train operating company (Southeast Trains) doesn’t have air conditioning and it’s absolute hell, I would’ve thought that when trains go into refurbishment they could install air conditioning, none need to order new trains for that, but when your forced to pay a fortune (cough, cough) for your ticket and you have no choice but to use that train operating company, then why would they, they’re not customer focused and alwAys put profit before service. Coming home today on the 3.24 from Charing Cross, they only put 4 carriages on, so not great for the people who have to stand in the heat. |

The company I’m temping at insists on tights for women choosing to wear a skirt. So a few archaic companies still do (I suspect a few restaurants do as part of the uniform too)
Having opted for the ugly trousers this doesn’t affect me directly.
Most offices however tend to end up quite flexible in the heat unless it’s as Baemax says above the super smart culture where everyone regardless of gender is in a suit type outfit.

My weather app last night said thunder and lightening all day today. Hmmmm can’t see a cloud in the sky. Ok with this today as it happens but hoping the rain comes later.
What weather app is accurate?

I've been invited to a barbecue this evening and I am keen to attend, but the weather forecast is ALL OVER THE PLACE. The BBC reckons it'll rain all night long, the Met Office reckons it'll be totally dry, Accuweather says it'll mostly be fine but there'll be an hour of thunderstorms right in the middle, and whatever it is that provides results when you type "[town name] weather" into Google agrees with the Met Office. So I've NO idea what to expect, but if I take my waterproofs, then that'll make it *less* likely to rain, right?

I am very fortunate that I work and live in buildings with air con but the air con is so expensive at home so we have it on during the day to cool the flat down (it has gone up to 30.5) and then have a fan in our bedroom.
I just feel like I am being baked and I neither have the hot bod or clothing to be adequately dressed (my work banned shorts years ago, I turned up in "cropped trousers" I will happily take them off if anyone complains)

I find the Met Office most reliable, though they do seem to overestimate the probability of rain sometimes. Unfortunately their app doesn't offer a countrywide weather map, so (unlike their website) you can't look at the area around you and use the weather to decide which way to head for a day out.
That's actually a problem with most weather apps I've seen. They tell me huge amounts of detail about the weather where I am, but I can see the weather where I am. I want to know about the weather everywhere else.
