Poor Alice - she must be one of the most mistreated of literary characters. So many reinventions, all trying to find a relevance and imposing meanings and interpretations on her wonderful tale. You know what, Lewis Carroll did a rather good job himself and should be trusted.

Hmm so Southampton misses out again! No they don't! It's at the Mayflower 18 - 22 April 2017!

Well, just to show how a name can sell a show I've just booked for this. Front row for £19.00 on opening night (ATG card). Not fussed about Kerry Ellis at all but the fact that she's involved makes me think it might be a decent production.

They must have offered some serious money to Kerry Ellis to get her to do this, and to let her have time off at certain times. They obviously want to draw in her Wicked fans. It has some good songs but the book is a clunker.
They boast of sold out seasons in in various places but no mention of the broadway production. Because it closed within a month.
I see they are also advertising a night of 'Frank and Friends' singing the big songs from his shows. I have the albumn they did of this concert in Vienna and its great. I hope they bring it to London.

The book is being changed. A UK writer is adapting and changing it.

It needs a complete rewrite, but that wont happen.

Hugely risky!
An unknown show with names that mean little outside the industry!

It's something a bit different though in a time when we are seeing the same tours coming round and round again.
I will be booking.

They're going back to the original Tampa production and starting from there in its editing. Things are being changed, but their source material is starting with the Tampa production and expanding on that, and not the Broadway version

Re the Manchester concert, does anyone have an inkling who the 'friends' are going to be?
I'm guessing Kerry will be one of them...

Hugely risky! An unknown show with names that mean little outside the industry! I would agree. I shall be booking though. Something different to the usual tired old tours of Blood Brothers, Joseph etc. The Broadway production (YouTube) looks fabulous - very Wicked influenced. Great costume designs! Lets hope its a quality tour with some money spent on sets, costumes etc.

I can't really understand why people are surprised that Kerry is involved. Don't get me wrong - I like Kerry and have seen her in various things, but she isn't a famous name. She's a jobbing musical actress like thousands of others. Yes, she is talented, but so are many others; just because she's been in Wicked doesn't necessarily mean she has offers/producers beating her door down. She has to take jobs when they are offered. In fact, more of the public will no doubt have heard of/recognise Wendi Peters than Kerry Ellis. I'm sure she'll be great in the role, but not sure Kerry is enough of a name to bring sell-out crowds in. Last time I saw her in concert was at Birmingham Town Hall. This is a small concert venue and there were many, many unsold seats - so not sure she'll sell out bigger venues in this.

Carolyn Maitland had uploaded 2 videos of her singing from Wonderland. Seriously want to see her as both Alice and the Hatter as she smashes these songs!

She was u/s Ellen in Miss Saigon 2014-15, and then covered the role whilst Siobhan Dillon was off. Also in Groundhog Day recently!

Seriously shes INSANE. That I Will Prevail is phenomenal!
And this has nothing to do with Kerry being in Wonderland, but I would love to see Carolyn as Elphaba/

Too mannered for my liking, not natural at all and that detracts from the performance.
...although that does seem to be the default setting in musicals now.

Re the Manchester concert, does anyone have an inkling who the 'friends' are going to be? I'm guessing Kerry will be one of them... I've created a thread in the Performers and Creatives section for the concert. Hope that's OK with mods . (No mention of Kerry)

Shameless plug but I spoke to Wendi Peters and Stephen Webb who told me little bits about Wonderland after the concert in Manchester!

Nice vlog kirstylovesmusicals! Was that bar you were in public or the "ambassador lounge"? I was in the circle for the first time ever at the Palace and was quite surprised how nice it was upstairs. It's a much nicer theatre than it looks from the outside. I got my Wonderland ticket for £19, row AA stalls! looking forward to it after seeing the concert last week.
