I'm not even English and I'm so disappointed for them! They displayed real sportsmanship throughout and hard graft and Southgate is such a gent.

I'm not English or a football fan but very disappointed on behalf of all my friends who are. Tomorrow at work is going to be depressing.

I didn't watch (working a late shift) but kept an eye on the score. Don't follow Football in the slightest, but I enjoyed watching people watching this unfold, and sad for the team having got so far. They also seemed like a 'nice bunch of lads' rather than the kind of spoiled brat footballers we see so much of. And obviously, I love a man in a waistcoat, I'm only human...
I would also like to apologise on behalf of my Nationalist idiotic Welshmen/women who are taking the opportunity to be as bad as the same spectrum of English fans....most normal people here were enjoying a bit of sport and cheering the team on as well.

There was a report on the BBC London 6:30pm news last night about theatres heavily discounting tickets due to the match. Apparently Hamilton tickets were still available and Book of Mormon tickets were being discounted. They pretty much said that you could walk into a box office and name your price.
Don't know how true it all was. Did anyone take advantage?

Of course the real reason 'we' did so well is because half the team are from Yorkshire.
If Harrogate resident Gareth Southgate had not chosen to be quite so representative of Engerland as a whole, I have absolutely no doubt the squad would next be playing on Sunday, rather than Saturday.

Congratulations to France: I took an active dislike to Croatia after their endless whining in the semifinal, England didn’t particularly deserve to be in the final but the constant whinging of Modric and co. really got to me, and seeing them lose today has made my day 😛

What a shame VAR has won the world cup in such circumstances I genuinely don't know enough about VAR to be debating it, yet here we are: isn't VAR just flagging/advising certain decisions/circumstances the referee may have missed or overlooked, but the final decision is still made by the referee and the referee only?

The VAR handball decision was correct, the ref missed it first time. VAR has been a great success I think (and stop whinging Shearer man, you are just embarrassing yourself). Can anyone seriously claim they are happy with more wrong decisions when this has cut them down? It’s curtailed wrestling at corners and free kicks, noticed numerous handballs, caught sneaky contact with feet and so on. One ref used it badly but that’s because they were a poor ref in the first case.
Happy that France beat Croatia although Belgium were probably the best footballing side overall. England have something to build on now too.

You can't give handball for that, it's an absolute mockery. People have hands and the ball will strike them in the box from time to time. But it's not the fault of VAR, the ref just made a stupid call.

The hand was out ready to block as far as I can see. I had the radio commentary on along with the vision and Waddle thought the same. I do think that the law needs making more black and white so that any hand that affects play is penalised though. The current law allows players to claim innocence because it is too much about intent. The one poor decison was the free kick earlier.

Not sure why Shearer and co were bleating on and on!! Because people funnily enough have different views, as they are entitled to... I was watching with my dad and it was very obviously not a penalty as far as we could see! The arm was up for balance when jumping and the ball was hit from a yard away, no time whatsoever to get the arm out of the way. Ball to hand, not a penalty. Anyway, if the referee was sure, he would have given it straight away. Instead he took 5 mins to decide, which to me suggests serious doubt. If in doubt, then it shouldn't be given.
