Went to see the Rupert Everett written, directed and starring film about the final days of Oscar Wilde, believe the hype is justified 
Funny and moving in equal measure and Mr E is as good as OW as he was in The Judas Kiss.

I was listening to an interview with Rupert Everett on the 5live film podcast the other day - it turns out he did Judas Kiss in part to drum up interest in this project, which he’d been trying to get off the ground for about a decade!

There was also a very interesting Arena programme a few weeks ago with Rupert that was all about the history of this film coming to the big screen. It was very interesting. Should still be on iplayer.

Finally got around to seeing this at the local cinema.
Whoa!
Everett can direct! He’s got a proper eye for it - it looks stunning, even (maybe even especially) when Oscar is in the depths of his dissolution and despair. And it flows beautifully - even with the non-linear approach.
I do hope it’s not a one-off.

Having had to wait several weeks to see this film, I was disappointed and wished I hadn't bothered. I found it far too self-indulgent and it seemed simply to go over such familiar ground yet again, without doing anything differently or adding to my knowledge. And as one reviewer noted, death scenes tend to drag on too long if the character in question is not only the lead but also the writer and director.
So thumbs down from me but it seems like a very thin time for new releases generally - and it's not even Edinburgh season/school summer holidays yet.

Certainly if you know your Wilde history there’s nothing in here that you won’t already be aware of - it’s the way the tale is told that I found impressive.
It’s a study of self-indulgence to destruction, juxtaposed with one of Wilde’s most beautiful stories about the virtue and nobility of self-sacrifice for others.

Saw this at the barbican screening before general release with a post-show talk/Q&A with Rupert Everrett. Loved the film and gthe way the narration of the Happy Prince was interwoven and hearing Rupert talk about the journey this film had to get to be made was wonderful.
Thought the cinematography in this was stunning! Can't wait to get this on dvd when the time comes
