Priscilla Queen Of The Desert - UK Tour

I thought Joe McFadden was badly miscast. Its not a great production but can only be better without him.

I don't know why but this just felt...icky to me.

It looked like it had all been made for £7.99 and a few binliners for starters. I expected it to look cheap though, but it really was as bad as I feared. I've seen some pretty low-rent pantos with better costumes than this.
Also didn't think a single one of the leads was a good singer (or a good actor for that matter). Tick looked lost and like he was from an am dram production, Bernadette just...wasnt very good (but I guess when you've seen Tony Sheldon do it no one will look good) and Felicia seemed unable to stay in one key.
Divas were great though, and I did quite like how all the lockers turned into the bus. Bus didn't look as awful as it might.

General public lapped it up, loved it, shouted out, sang along. Can't say fairer than that.
Although I do wish more people wear masks. Obviously understand if there is a reason you can't but 'i don't want to' doesn't cut it with me. It's not that much of an imposition for 2 hours to make it a safer experience for all concerned (that's my Covid 2 pence).

2 stars from me, for a show that I gave 4 when I originally saw it at the Palace. Material has aged and not in a great way. Score still lands every single song though.

Absolutely just my view though, like I said public loved it. And it's the kind of show we need to get people back in...I just didn't think the production itself was up to much.

Saw this last night, it's a crowd pleaser without ever straying outside it's comfort zone.

Some strange staging choices - particularly sticking the leads on the top of the back wall for the finale or never actually hinting that the outback is an desert (the part of Australia being played by a sheet of corrugated tin for the entire show).

Cast and tunes worth the effort, I thought - it's a good 'welcome back to going out' show.

I COMPLETELY agree with you on that scene. I volunteered twice for it in Northampton last month, and both nights that graffiti reveal got prolonged laughter from the audience. One woman giggled for a good couple of minutes. I do wonder what world we live in where so many people still find that slur funny. They're happy to be entertained by a show about gay people, itself created by many gay people, but will also happily laugh when those same gay people are victimised in that way. I too worried that I was overreacting so I'm glad you felt the same.

Jesus, I can’t believe people are reacting like that! I saw the first UK tour in Manchester and that scene shut every single person in the audience up. The following scene actually had quite a profound effect on me as a 19 year old gay man trying to fit into the world.

Wow! Such a huge theatre. Although I can certainly see it selling well in the current climate.

I *really* hope they bulk up the production a bit. I feel sorry for anyone booking thinking they are going to get anything like the original West End show. This is going to look extremely sparse in that barn of a theatre!
