Did I mention I nearly left at the interval last time I went......... Shocking! Dare I be cheeky and ask why... Don't get me wrong, I could never sing it so hats off to both of them, but EH just not my cup of tea. I felt like I was being shouted at the entire time, there was no power or control and the negatives I hear in the bootlegs absolutely come over worse live. I couldn't relate to the character in the acting either. I didn't take to it the first time but thought a second showing would be better - it wasn't. How the fan accounts can sit through eight shows on the trot is beyond me but then again that's what makes live theatre the best, everyone will have different opinions.

Seems fine to me. Idina Menzel is sometimes quite erratic when aiming for big notes.

Rachel has a 25 minute interview with Broadway.com gone on YouTube, definitely worth the watch!

Finally... Also quite looking forward to seeing a new Glinda (Carrie St. Louis). How was it? And I heard Curt Hansen is the better Fiyero. Haven't seen Jonah Platt yet (he was also off in January) so I can't compare them. Curt Hansen did a perfectly good job though. I somehow had the impression that Rachel either held back or didn't give her everything. I still enjoyed her performance, but, tbh, I felt slightly underwhelmed. Maybe my expectations were too high or I had glorified her too much since last seeing her, but I remembered her to be stronger. She did at least do her Tucker growl in Defying Gravity, but even if it's hard to admit, I actually preferred Christine Dwyer 7 weeks ago. Carrie St Louis was a breath of fresh air. Not as over the edge as Kara Lindsay but still very funny. What a revelation compared to Savannah. What do we have to do to get such a Glinda in London? Am I allowed to say that Dawn E Cantwell, the new Nessa, is hot? Really enjoyed seeing someone who enjoys her job and gives everything. And she looked young enough. Didn't like the Wizard, Boq and Morrible were meh but Dillamond was the best I've seen in a while. Back once more on Wednesday afternoon before catching my late evening flight back home.

That's disappointing, I've heard that a lot about Rachel on this run - I saw her admittedly too many times in London and she always went above and beyond, and even when she wasn't doing her riffs she was giving an incredible performance so if she is underwhelming when I see her next month I will be incredibly disappointed- I'd say it will be the last time I see Wicked so I hope she delivers.

Here is the speech from Tom McGowan's final performance on Saturday... apparently overall it was his 1918th show as The Wizard in Wicked! For one of the smaller roles in Wicked, that is pretty damn impressive!

Laura Emmitt has announced she has a scheduled Elphaba show on the 24th March.
Is it usual for 2nd U/s to get scheduled shows? Let's hope it's to see about the potential for a lead or s/b job for either tour or London and the execs will be in!

Without doubt Laura has lead-potential, I really enjoyed her debut performance last year - just brilliant!

I wasn't even aware I was seeing an understudy (l never saw Emma, but I did see Dearman a few years ago) I just remmember being so impressed with her.

I would really enjoy it if Laura did get s/b Elphaba on tour, she has already proved herself more than worthy of the position and has delivered nothing but flawless, powerhouse performances (also, I've been told her acting is really good). Despite all that, I do find it somewhat tiresome that Wicked continue promoting within their ranks, with entirely new cast members being a rare sight. Hopefully the upcoming tour will have several new faces and give Wicked the lease of life it desperately needs on this side of the pond!

Back once more on Wednesday afternoon before catching my late evening flight back home. I did enjoy today's Matinee more than last Saturday's Evening show, but I still remembered Rachel being (even) stronger and better. But maybe my memory has just faded over the years, who knows. I do miss her English accent though, hearing her speak with an American accent sounds wrong. It was good seeing her go green again, but I'm looking forward to seeing new actresses have a go at playing Elphaba. Jonah Platt was back on and I thought he was a solid Fiyero. Neither particularly good nor bad. Still, I'm interested in hearing your thoughts about the Broadway production in general and Rachel in particular.

Not long back to the hotel after seeing tonight evening show on Broadway.
Rachel was fantastic, she threw in a few riffs during The Wizard and I, and a couple of growls during Defying Gravity. There were a few acting choices I loved, such as slowing down her rant during the cat fight scene so that Glinda would understand it.
Carrie St Louis was a breath of fresh air as Glinda, the character definitely works better as a ditzy LA-esque blonde, rather than preppy English...was surprised at how much I loved her.
Jonah Platt was better than I thought he would be, but even then it was just a typical Fiyero performance.
Loved Peter Scolari as the Wizard, but I'm slightly biased, as I was a huge fan of the Honey I Shrunk The Kids to series when I was a kid.
I couldn't get over how much bigger the production is here in New York, didn't realise it was downsized so much for London.
Although downside to the night was that ticketmaster cancelled my ticket without letting me know before, so I didn't find out until I tried to get my ticket scanned. Luckily my seat was still available, so I had to repurchase it at the box office...thankfully I checked my bank and The original purchase was refunded...but it was stress I didn't need.

Glad to hear that you saw Rachel and enjoyed her performance. Out of interest: Did they do a BC/EFA speech in the Evening? There wasn't one after the Matinee, but Aladdin and Book of Mormon on Sunday and School of Rock on Tuesday did one.
Are you seeing any other shows in New York, or was it just Wicked?
I don't find Wicked London that much downscaled tbh. The only differences to Broadway I'm aware of are the hot-air balloon during Wizomania, two monkeys "flying" over the audience after being set free after Wonderful, and of course the trap door in the floor so that it's an actual attic. And there's a fourth of the metal frames on wheels.

I remember Jeniffer Tierney was the first 2nd cover they had and she didn't go on - was there somebody else or was Jackie Hughes next? As previously said, she had a scheduled show when she was 2nd cover. As far as I'm aware, the 1st covers always have at least 1 contracted show, but don't think was originally the case for the 2nd covers.

I think Jennifer Tierney was the first second cover? and actually the only one to not get a show sadly. However the others got shows due to holiday and illness, injury etc! Katie Rowley-Jones is one I'm not sure of - I know she got a couple of shows because of holiday and injury but I'm not sure if she then also got a scheduled show?

No, they didn't do the speech in the evening either...was hoping they did, so I could get a poster to go with the Kinky Boots poster I got on Tuesday...but it wasn't meant to be. Saw Kinky Boots on Tuesday night, the evening show of Wicked yesterday, just back from today's matinee of Phantom (which also did the speech and got the signed poster for that, and this afternoons performance also marked that the current Carlotta is now the longest running in the role in Phantom history, which they also added to the speech). Got Aladdin tomorrow, then Finding Neverland and King & I on Saturday.

Rachelle Ann Go has said she wants to play the role at some point. What do the Wicked experts think ?
