{Spoiler - click to view} I always thought that she pretty much planned it herself with Fiyero as the scarecrow just sort of nudging things along on the Dorothy end. Then she just disappears into a trapdoor and appears later... Thanks - this would make sense, but surely Dorothy would see her not melting and climbing into a trapdoor? We also see swirling green smoke. Maybe it's just a plot hole. Along with "they were thrilled to shreds with their brains and their heart and everything" Why would Fiyero go and see the Wizard when he knows the truth?!

I knew she was going to go on today, I had a feeling!
From the audios, last night sounded great. I am of course a huge fan of Rachel and I'm not really getting the 'forced' vibes that people are describing her vocals as. Yes, it wasn't her BEST PERFORMANCE EVER (!!!!!!!!) but I think she just sounded a little tired rather than forced.

I was still in London after last night's amazing show (and Kinky boots matinee today). The temptation to head back to Victoria was strong! I hope she smashes it. I also hope she gets some announced dates

I was there last night,s some thoughts:
:: I was sat in the circle for the first time in October 2009 and was struck by just how poor the sound quality is up there, compared to the stalls. The music is murkier, the ensemble sound thinner and many of the lines were barely audible.
:: I am in the minority who felt Rachel sounded weak and tired. I was at her opening night in London, her belt then sounded healthy and pure - but it was clear she was struggling last night and had to hold back on some of the money notes. I also think her raspiness is quickly going the way Kerry Ellis' did: it sounded great when she first started using it, but it's starting to sound quite painful. I didn't think the end of Defying Gravity sounded that pleasant - although the end riff was beautiful.
:: Curtain call. I know we had no reason to expect it, but it would have been nice to finish with something more special than a speech and a balloon drop.
:: Brilliant, brilliant audience. Immaculately behaved (from where I was) and full of energy. Yes there was a bit of cheering mid-song, but it was never too hysterical (I have regular, vivid flashbacks to Kerry's last show before Broadway in 2008) and the actors were clearly loving it.
:: Stephen Schwartz's speech was very touching. I also spotted him posing for pictures with fans in the dress circle before the show. Seemed like a gent.
:: The orchestra sounded outstanding
:: Suzie Mathers is a wonderful Glinda

I saw Rachel in this quite a few time in London and I am sorry but this does not sound nearly as goood as it used to. I barely understand the first half of the clip and then its just shouty. The reason you don't understand the first half of the clip is because it was recorded in the circle and the sound quality was dreadful up there. Rachel certainly wasn't shouting - yes, of course her voice isn't going to be the same as it was during her first run, but a lot of it is her choosing to emphasise different notes. Sounded much better live than on the clip.

If anyone has a recording of Alice singing defying gravity, please share.

I can't think of ANY that convey the emotion and quality of the actual performance bar ones that came out from Kerry's first "last" show, May 9th 2009. They are some of the few audios I still listen to as they sound just as incredible now as it was to hear them in person. The rest of them? Forget it (apart from Jacqui Hughes' last NGD in Salford which I could listen to on repeat forever.)

The thing is, if you were there last night you know, Rachel didn't even have to sing a note last night the audience went mental the moment she stepped on stage. I said it last night to a few people, if the orchestra hadn't continued after her entrance and after The Wizard and I, the audience wouldn't of stopped, they would of happily continued clappig and screaming for anogher 5 minutes. It was a bonus she sounded incredible too!

Does anyone know if I can pop by this afternoon to only buy one of these 10th anni-programmes? Or can you only do that at night/when you have a ticket?

You could pop and get one when doors open. There's a merchandise stall in between the two sets of doors before you get your ticket checked.

Thank Goodness we now know Debbie Mcghee and various other celebrities' thoughts on Wicked. The not knowing was keeping me awake at night

I love it when they interview ex-cast members and performers, but why would theatre fans watching this care about what a random singer, rugby player or comedian has to say about it? Especially when their comments are mostly just 'it was really good'. Not to diminish these people's prominence or talent in their own field, but I do always wonder why they think we'd care what a random ex-eastenders star thinks.
Every time I see Willemijn my heart skips a beat though. I literally cannot wait for her to be Elphaba again!!!

Exactly. Are 99% of the general population actually watching these videos? I strongly suspect that the only people clicking on a video about the 10th Anniversary of Wicked are theatre fans who care about Wicked? Right? I live with 3 non theatre fan housemates and not one of them has even heard of anything like Whatsonstage (who normally put videos like this out), nor did they know that it was the 10th anniversary a few nights back either.

I imagine they're trying to find a balance. Sue and Alan from Rotherham who go down to London once every 5 years to see a show and see this on the Wicked website won't have a bloody clue who Willemijn is but probably trust the lovely Debbie McGee.

I would always trust the word of mouth of someone I know who goes to something and invests in it financially i.e. paid for their own ticket, over someone who got free tickets, free drinks etc.
No wonder they're all saying how wonderful everything is!

Haha! I have to confess I skimmed through without sound (at work) before posting and only bothered to do so for the last few seconds of curtain call, etc footage. As for the, er... 'great and the good' in attendance, that's what fast forward is for!

Loved reading all your reactions from the 10th anniversary! That programme looks amazing. It's a shame that the only way to get it is to go to the theatre.. Also, such a bummer that they didn't make it more special with a performance of all the Elphabas and Glindas. So much talent and they only get to stand on the stage and listen to the speeches.

It takes more prep than may seem obvious to do a singalong like that - warm ups, mics, rehearsal time... I imagine they were all there to enjoy themselves and maybe was too big an operation to put something together.
