Heather Headley's last performance in The Bodyguard: 4am. We were not first in line.

I'm too old for all that now, if I want a last show I'd rather pay a higher price and guarantee a ticket and a few extra hours in bed!
My 7:45am at Wicked meant a 4:45am departure from Cardiff!!

Being in the front row for Wicked was the greatest experience ever, but I wouldn't stand in line for hours just to get front row

I can also offer 8am for Wicked. Not too bad in itself, but it was New Year's Day and they didn't open until 12pm that day. Only found out about it when I arrived at the box office - as I was awake anyway and wasn't even first in line, I decided to stay.

Once Rachel returns i do wonder how busy day-seating will be

Ah just stumbled upon this again and love the riffing male ensemble at the end haha! Can't decide if he got overjoyed with emotion or was a swing on the wrong note then corrected! 😂

I camped for one night for Rachel's last show. As I have said previously, I didn't think I was quite mad enough to be in that queue! I honestly didn't do it to show how much of a fan I am. (I very rarely go to stage door - only if I want a new programme signed. And all I do is get it signed/get a picture. I am under no illusion that the cast are my friends!) I just have a really strong preference for front row seats. Plus dayseats are miles cheaper than the seats immediately behind them, in which you risk having someone tall blocking your view.
And the camping was quite fun! Good excuse to sit around and read/chat all day. Nobody ever seems to bat an eyelid when people do likewise for the latest iPhone. Or Wimbledon tickets (which incidentally is the only other time I have ever camped in my life).
Incidentally, the people who purportedly camped for a week actually had a hostel nearby, and spent a lot of time going back to it while other people kept their place in the queue. They didn't stay overnight for the whole week. Only the last two nights I think. Still bonkers though. I thought one of them might die, due to being totally unprepared for sleeping outside. (It snowed at one point.) I was wearing ski gear and had a sleeping bag. She was wearing pyjamas and had a blanket!
There was also nearly a mutiny when some of the campers went to the Friday evening show and tried to come back to their place in the queue.
p.s. Michael - I made the same rookie error dayseating Miss Saigon on New Year's Day.

I prefer front row seats too, but I think it isn't worth camping the whole night for imo. I'd rather pay £40 extra and be certain I'll have a good seat and be well rested. I never have any problems with people blocking my view anyway, because I'm 6"4.
I think people camping out for a new iPhone or whatever ridiculous too. Just go to bed and then go to the store when you're up. I don't see why you need it in the middle of the night when you're supposed to be sleeping anyway.

(Unlikely due to my aforementioned preference for front row.) I do agree with you though - I think it was a fun thing to do once but I am not doing it for Rachel's next last (presumably also her last last, not to be confused with her past last). I was very sleepy that day. Although I do think that made the whole day more emotional. And the camping made it more of an event. Again, a bit like Wimbledon - I enjoy the Queue. It's not the same when you get show court tickets online and can just waltz in. Admittedly drinking Pimm's at 6am is acceptable in a field in Wimbledon but may be frowned upon on a pavement in Victoria..... Ditto re iPhones. Same debate recently happened in the Harry Potter thread re books.

A shop near me frequently has campers over night for new trainer deliveries.
I was wondering about their sanity but when I heard hundreds can be made in profit from selling them it sounded more sane.
Day seating for a week whilst having a hostel and going to the show every night sounds like those who put their towel down early to reserve a deckchair!

I do wonder why Starbucks/Caffe Nero/younameit don't send mobile sellers over. They'd make a fortune, especially during the winter months...

Cast change almost 2 weeks away, huge amount of tickets for 3'rd Sept available, and this thread is dead. Shows how much interest people have in the current cast .... Roll on new cast, eh !

I like the current cast, I really like them. I think it is just because there is nothing really new that has occurred this year. Savannah and Emma have been there for ages so they don't cause that much excitement sadly.
But wait until Rachel comes back, then I wouldn't be surprised if that excitement kick starts again!

Anyone heard any rumours about plans for the 10th Anniversary performance? With start time pushed back half an hour and no stalls seats on public sale they must be planning something significant

The Aladdin press night started at 7pm I think and was to ensure the celebs got a photo and into their seat on time.... I'm guessing the 7pm start is the same that in reality it'll be curtain up at 7:30pm.
I am of course hopeful that they're planning some kind of Elphaba sing-off at the end but the unimaginativness of them lately I doubt it!!
It'll be "look at this YouTube Z list..."

A fair point from a true fan's perspective. I personally feel the show has been on a constant downward spiral in quality now for many years and could do with a refresh.

I still hope we finally get a London Cast Recording to celebrate the 10th anniversary. If we don't get one now, we never will

I still hope we finally get a London Cast Recording to celebrate the 10th anniversary. If we don't get one now, we never will As much as I'd love a recording with Rachel Tucker on it, I doubt a London Cast recording will ever happen, especially now that they've got the film a couple of years down the line which will have its own soundtrack that they'll want to push

There is a "tenth anniversary" Broadway cast recording special edition which I expect the London show to try and pass off as their own. It is easier.

The Aladdin press night started at 7pm I think and was to ensure the celebs got a photo and into their seat on time.... I'm Actually, it's a tradition that goes back to when most newspapers published a print review the next morning. The early start was to ensure the show finished in enough time for the critic to phone their review to the paper before it went to the printer. Oh how the digital age has changed... I wouldn't say it's really the digital age that's changed it - more the practice of letting the press in before "press night" which has now morphed into "opening night" or even "gala performance". Nowadays that just represents an embargo date rather than a "you must review this on this date" date. But yes, that definitely was the tradition. Never really spread much outside of London though, I've never known a touring production have their opening night earlier than the rest of the run.
