This makes it look a bit good. Discuss.

As long as Pink Elephants On Parade is in (and the racist crows are out), I'm ALL for it!

Mixed feelings on them - I know it plays into racist caricature (and so, arguably, do many early cartoon characters like Mickey Mouse, Oswald the Lucky Rabbit and Felix, with their minstrel/blackface faces), but they're the sharpest, coolest characters in the film and, along with Pink Elephants, the highlight. Unlike most of the characters, they're actually kind to Dumbo after the initial teasing, and give him the encouragement to use his gifts. Btw, in the Jungle Book, they wanted to use the Beatles for the vultures, but I think Lennon refused and the song was rewritten as a barber shop quartet. Apparently the surviving Beatles turned down the live-action version too. Shame.

It looks decent, unlike Beauty and the Beast, it doesn't look like a straight remake which may work in its favour.
Disney are really mining the back catalogue with Christopher Robin later this year and Aladdin and Lion King in 2019 as well.

Live action Mulan later this year too. Mulan's been delayed until 2020 Oh thats mad! I was browsing the Cineworld website this morning and saw Mulan listed in the 'Coming Soon' section. Its still penned as an October 2018 release there.

Still, sad that all the new writers got wiped out by that comet leaving 21stc humans to subsist on endless bloody remakes...

Just had a quick look on Twitter regarding the crow thing (well, as my icon shows, I do love crows!) and it looks like the replacement of Dumbo's animal comrades with cute human children is drawing ire from the Furry community.

The trailer looks like The Greatest Showman with elephants.

Is there not an inherent contradiction in doing a supposedly "live action" film with a plot that involves a flying elephant?!

Is there not an inherent contradiction in doing a supposedly "live action" film with a plot that involves a flying elephant?! I was thinking much the same thing. I love Disney's work but they're stretching the definition of "live action" to breaking point. If you're going to do a live action remake of an animated film then at least pick a film where all the main characters are humans. Or better yet, come up with something new.

The cartoon mother elephant broke my heart. A live action one will probably leave me a sobbing mess

I watched Dumbo with my four year old and I was really surprised by it. I remembered it being about a flying elephant, but that doesn’t happen until right at the end. Between this and Pinocchio, I feel like old Disney movies have some really suspect elements by modern standards.

I think it looks brilliant, and I’m no Tim Burton fan.
Considering a good chunk of the film revolves around Dumbo getting drunk and having beer fear the next morning, it’ll be interesting to see if Disney does down this route... drunk animals isn’t really on-brand anymore.

We did see a snippet of the Pink Elephants on Parade, so it looks hopeful. I think they'd get a pass 'cos it's so clearly a cautionary thing, Dumbo gets limited enjoyment followed by EPIC NIGHTMARES out of his boozing, so there's no way they can be accused of glorifying or promoting underage elephant drinking.

I've realised I don't really like Disney films all that much. The Jungle Book (George Sanders version), Robin Hood (fox one) and The Hundred and One Dalmatians (beautiful, Ronald Searle-inspired animation) but that's about it, really. Even as a kid I think I just found them cloying. I love Marc Davis' character designs (Maleficent etc.) but you had to sit through a lot of tweeness to get to them.
Maleficent, btw, was modelled on Vampira, the TV horror 'hostess' best known for Plan 9 From Outer Space.

The only one of the cast I’ve seen on stage is Roshan Seth who was Fool in the catastrophically bad NT King Lear directed by Sir David Hare - no wonder he stuck to screen work after that - Antony Hopkins too.

I'm sorry that you missed Phyllida Lloyd's Henry IV, Sharon Rooney did a very nice job in it.

as my icon shows, I do love crows! Crows are awesome. Disney should do a remake of some of their recent films with a cast of crows. I'm not going to believe anyone who tells me they wouldn't go and see Crowtopia, or Crowzen, or Crowana. Crow White. Rook It Ralph.

Crowtopia, or Crowzen, or Crowana. Crow White. Rook It Ralph. Ok, I take it back, some of the recent Disney stuff is pretty good. I never liked Dumbo though - animal cruelty and (brrr) clowns. Crows were the best bit.

Looks to be cashing in on the successful appeal of The Greatest Showman in new promotional materials. Can’t blame them.
