Don't miss Colin Cloud! He is Scotland's handsome and witty answer to Derren Brown. (Not that you aren't handsome Derren) He puts on a brilliant show at the fringe and his magic/mind reading/comedy is classy, not cheap and tacky.

Two of my friends are in 13. I wanted to do it too but nobody told me when or where the auditions happened. Shouldn't that read EX-friends? Haha. It’s no hard feelings to anyone. It’s my fault for not checking Captivate Theatre website or Facebook. I think I was in London when they auditioned people anyway.

Had a day up. I really reccomend The Song of Lunch, a verse play by Christopher Reid. So lovely to sit and listen to well written verse delivered by two powerhouse actors in Rebecca Johnson and Robert Bathurst.

Every year I feel the Fringe hasn't truly arrived until there's a BBC Breakfast presenter surrounded by Circus performers at an ungodly hour. This morning Charlie Stayt fulfilled that and I declare it Fringe season.

Oh, and for stand up, Rose Matafeo, Dominic Holland and Paul Mayhew Archer (Vicar of Dibley co-writer) have great shows as well, saw them in previews. Wish I was at the Fringe for longer!

Do go and see Lovecraft (not the sex shop in Cardiff) performed by Carys Eleri. I described it as 'if Brian Cox put songs about boobs in his shows'
And Hijinx Theatre's The Flop (not that everything i share has to have a sexual component...)

I am so confused. Can I pick up tickets at the venues (Gilded Balloon Rose Theatre, Underbelly George Square and Paradise in the Vault) or do I have to go to the main box office or one of the kiosks?

I am so confused. Can I pick up tickets at the venues (Gilded Balloon Rose Theatre, Underbelly George Square and Paradise in the Vault) or do I have to go to the main box office or one of the kiosks? It depends who you booked them through. If they were from the fringe website then there are some machines dotted around as well as at the main fringe office on the Royal Mile. If you booked them through the venue then go to the venue. If you haven’t booked then you can get a ticket by going to either.

Today I saw 'Orpheus' at Summerhall. A version of the story told through spoken word and acoustic music. It was brilliant. I was captivated the whole way through. tickets.edfringe.com/whats-on/orpheus

I saw Janie Dee in "Don't tell me not to fly" today and had a great time. Her voice is not the strongest and she fumbled some lyrics, but she was a great entertainer. Might go again when Ria is playing.

I hope im not breaking any rules by plugging my friends show but if you get the chance go see Bare Productions production of You're a Good Man Charlie Brown. They've sold out the past two nights and are sold out 2 of the remaining 6 shows. From what I hear the show is fantastic (I'm seeing it on wed). tickets.edfringe.com/whats-on/you-re-a-good-man-charlie-brown

Hearing very good things about National Theatre Scotland/Birds of Paradise's 'My Left/Right Foot the Musical', Kieran Hodgson's new show '75', 'Underground Railroad Game' at the Traverse and Middle Child's 'One Life Stand'.
All of them now booked.

Saw 2 shows yesterday:
Ordinary Days - Not as good as the production at last years fringe. The 2 boys are good but the girls were not as vocally secure. Some of the direction was a bit busy where they should have let the lyrics to do the work.
Don’t Tell Me Not To Fly: Janie Dee - An interesting mix of songs, many from her new album. There were a number of lyric slips but she still fully committed to the performance. The use of the projections felt like it slowed things down considerably. I wish they just had someone interview and interact with her between songs al la Seth Rudetsky. Interestingly she spent a good while introducing a song from Yentl as part of a mash-up with Children Will Listen but then only sang the latter? Definitely hoping to catch the other ladies.

I'm only gonna get to see 3 shows due to money and time, which are both in short supply. Tomorrow, I'll be seeing 13 and Six (and the new Mamma Mia but that doesn't count) and on Thursday, Paper Dolls.

Don't Tell Me Not To Fly: Janie Dee. I thought she was funny and charming and sang well despite a couple of lyric slips, (understandable when you're not getting much of a run of performances). The use of projections with questions which are then repeated by some woman with an really obnoxious speaking voice was a complete waste of time and money. I'd much rather Janie had just had a chat and told us a few stories between songs. I presume each actress has to suffer similarly. Still Janie gets the prize for best use of a Magnum in a fringe show!

Has anyone here seen 'Prom Kween' yet? I think I'll struggle to find something I hated more than this. I found this show so unfathomably awful. It was like 'Have you seen drag race? the musical - with added suicide jokes and use of the word c**t because its cool'
The audience I saw it with were absolutlely LOVING it though. They were on their feet the second it finished.
So i'd love to hear what others thought.

Recommended Musical:
* 'My Left/Right foot' - i predict that the book will get expanded and eventually it will make its way into the west end (one of the smaller playing houses would be best). Hilarious and very polished for an ed fringe production in my opinion. It does highlight / raise the inclusion / diversity message however, funnily enough, does not include any other actors of ethnicities. This is the only musical i've seen whilst up here that i would heartily recommend
Recommended Plays: *After the Cut - really poignant / heartbreaking play about the future where healthcare is not accessible for all - wife has learnt she has got cancer and can't pay for it. Husband learns how to do the surgery in order to save his wife. Masterful acting in the role - not seeking to be judgemental, theres a reason why this is nominated for a social impact award
* Ninas got news by Frank Skinner - wont say too much as it will spoil the play but i thought it was a harmless, effective hour of a comedic play. Good acting and despite some of the reviews, have enjoyed it
* Finding Fassbender - nice hour of a story - ending still needs work. From the writer of Skin the Cat?
Recommended Comedians: *Alex Edelman - such a smart comedian - loved loved him and its not just one hour of jokes, its one of jokes tied neatly into a meaningful view at racism. Alex is a jewish comedian who decided to attend a Nazi meeting. I loved him so much i went twice (second time because i had an hour to kill)
* Ed Gamble - he's pretty much sold out now but you can tell he is one of the best in the business. Talks about the time they got stuck at NYC in a blizzard (was on BBC news) and also about his Diabetes. Solid hour of entertainment
* Jake Lambert - future of british comedy - not quite there yet but worth a look. His first fringe show
Things to avoid (I didn't particulary enjoy them) * One Life Stand - sort of get it - its a bit overhyped * Bare -amateur * Sticks and Stones - so weird
I still have a couple of days shows left to watch so will fill in with other recommendations!

I’m just back from Six and I absolutely loved it. I felt bad for the old man in the front row who got picked on by Cleves! (Alexia McIntosh)
