The only thing that I hate about Rachel's Me and the Sky is that you can't clap afterwards. You can literally feel that unreleased tension in the audience.

Were theatres built or intended to house long runners? Are we right to get hung up on it? Sure from a producers pov they want their product to be a success, but as theatregoers, wouldn’t we rather see more things rather than the same thing more times? (This was said in the voice & style of Robert Kilroy Silk, as if introducing an episode of his talk show. I do apologise; as you were!). 🙂

The only thing that I hate about Rachel's Me and the Sky is that you can't clap afterwards. You can literally feel that unreleased tension in the audience. I counted last night, because I've noticed before how neatly the whole show is directed to prevent clapping and keep the tension - there are four "buttons" for applause in the whole show. Two are at the end of big songs (one being the opening), one is after a funny moment in the middle of a scene, the last is after the finale. It's certainly very effective - I agree that you can feel that tension building in the audience. I'm not sure it would work as well with more.
Count me as another one who loved last night's stand by fest. I've seen six of the roles covered now and it's so nice to see that they're allowed to put their own spin on them and not directed to play them exactly the same as the principals. To be fair, the principals don't play everything exactly the same every time anyway.

Never mind productions, theatres themselves were never intended to be long runners.
They were thrown up at great speed, and if they didn't burn down in the interim, were replaced with something bigger, or better, within ten or 15 years!

Fifth time visiting the London production today, 8th time total. The perfect show at 100 mins long before going in for an evening shift tonight.

I'm amazed at the amount of us who are on two or more visits to this production already, it's pretty impressive. 😂

The only thing that I hate about Rachel's Me and the Sky is that you can't clap afterwards. You can literally feel that unreleased tension in the audience. Whilst I *hate* I cannot clap after Me and the Sky, last night there was rapturous applause as she sang; "The first female captain in history". You really can feel people itching to clap as that song gets abruptly cut off! I also felt the SO didn't happen instantly, like the first time I saw it, even some people who didn't stand! I have never seen such a disruptive audience during a show until last night, 3 people in the row in front of me up for the toilet. A few sweet rustlers. 2 people arriving 25 minutes late (understanding it was probs, not their fault) Even two people on the front row deciding they needed the loo as well!!!! I also got choked up when {Spoiler - click to view} Bonnie says that she lost the baby monkey. But then the tears come in the finale as she said she later has one, and called it Gander!
Goodness I love this show!

Goodness I love this show! the same happened the second time I saw the show, there was applause and cheering when she did the "first female" line was sung, which I do love, it feels very female empowerment.

Four standbys on today! Tanya as Beulah, Kirsty as Janice, Chiara as Dianne and Alexander as Claude. All were wonderful! Particularly loved Chiara, interesting as I’d previously seen her as Buelah.
Instant standing O again, and packed!

My first viewing of this today (a friend won Rush!), we were in Dress C. Further back than I'm used to for rush, but definitely fine other than the tall man in front of me.
I absolutely loved the show - so raw and emotional. Rachel was a standout for me, Me and the Sky was superb. I find it really weird to not have a chance to clap, but everyone leapt to their feet at the end to applaud. It was a seamless production which is helped along by the lack of clap breaks, but I did feel like that built up a certain level of tension towards the end. I was wondering if I'd notice that it was 100 minutes with no interval, but it flew by because there isn't a low moment in it. They don't waste a second!

Oh, I'd forgotten until you mentioned this, but there were a group of people behind me sharing a bottle of wine and occasionally muttering to each other. During I Am Here, they decided they needed to have a toast and all clink their glasses together up the row. Yes, really! I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't witnessed it myself. People!

Whilst I cry at pretty much the whole show, there are two moments that instantly make me cry, as soon as the words are said, its just instant mop required: {Spoiler - click to view} When Bonnie says goodbye to the animals and says how sorry she is the monkey lost her baby and then when Hannah phones and says "he's gone, it's over".
I just find those moments so emotional, I don't know why, but good lord it just gets me every time.

I always start to cry when ( don't know how to do spoilers, so I'll just say when Bob talks about the barbecues!)

Oh and I don't think this is a spoiler, but all I'll say is The Prayer.
Real tear realness.

I just find those moments so emotional, I don't know why, but good lord it just gets me every time. Exactly the same here. {Spoiler - click to view} There's a slight gasp from the whole audience. The first time I saw the phone call I just burst into tears. I've NEVER done that at any show. My sister was also in floods- very rare for her to cry at anything that's not 'personal' i.e. films, books, TV. I think much of the emotion I felt in that moment was because of Cat Simmons; her acting really is something else. The second time I saw it I was just as emotional, as I know knew that Hannah was a little Irish woman that lives in New York. Part of the documentary talks about her, I cried as I watched Belulah and Hannah meet in real life! I can't stop going on about this show! Sorry, I just love it.

I'll continue to carry the opinion Cat Simmons is one of the strongest parts of this whole cast. Just a brilliant performance. It's so tough though to say because everyone in that cast is just incredible.

It's rare to have a cast so strong, but CFA really does. Cat Simmons is the strongest out of them IMO, but all of them are bloody strong!!!! I feel sorry for the new cast at CC.
Although this may turn out like Broadway, where most of the original cast are still standing as they love the show so much. Which is an amazing testament to the piece. I wouldn't complain if they all stayed.
And where else can you get a West End wage for 100 mins work, having a blast in an amazing show, that gets a standing ovation every night?!

Another moment which always brings tears to my eyes is the lyric in the Finale "Tonight we honour what was lost, but we also commemorate what we found" because it perfectly sums up the show for me, balancing the moments of devastation with the kindness, humanity and friendships found from that day.

It's so funny because I say one part is the most emotional then I remember at least ten other points in the show that have me in tears. It amazes me the small amount of people haven't found it emotional it seems. So emotional. 😂

It was those words then them all going into 'you are here', my final cry of the evening! lol

It's no surprise that Wednesday 11th Sept has already sold pretty well.

I guess I’m overemotional. But I got all teary eyed just reading all recent posts and remembering all the moments you are mentioning here!
