the Shaftesbury is planning a huge refurb' after Motown (plans are on their website, looks good) so will be out of action for a bit. I imagine they'll reopen with something suitably unimaginative and touristy, I can't imagine something big really wanting to go into the wrong end of Shaftesbury Avenue where there's barely any foot traffic (and with the exception of 'Memphis' their recent choices haven't been exciting).
I'd put money on 'Mean Girls' going into the Savoy. I think it's more likely that 'Dear Evan Hansen' will do a short run at a Nimax (Apollo?) or Mackintosh (Noel Coward?) venue, I don't think it's something which will bring in the tourists and that's what the theatres want these days.
'Waitress' isn't likely to make it over unless The Other Palace or Southwalk Playhouse decides to stage it.

I would have thought Motown's closing depends on when the theatre wants to start the refurbishment, they'll be closing to go dark rather than to get another show and looking at the plans on the website, it's going to be a huge refurbishment.

I'm really looking forward to 9 to 5 coming into town. And with it opening in time for the Oliviers, and doing a fairly long stint for a limited run (unless it has the possibility of extension), I'm glad to see it should have a nice healthy time in town.  |
