I fully believe that Mean Girls will eventually open at the Savoy. It's a very similar show in terms of audience to the likes of Dreamgirls and Legally Blonde and I'm sure they'd be confident of it doing well at that venue.
That said, as I said in the other thread I just think it's a year or so too early for Mean Girls, based on the usual time period of Broadway to West End transfers.
Doesn't mean it won't happen of course, but I'd expect something else to slot in to the Savoy pre- Mean Girls.

I'd rather we get Waitress, Dear Evan Hansen, Mean Girls, Anastasia and Groundhog Day first. I don't mind waiting for the likes of Come From Away and Great Comet. I think Come from Away might come sooner than later given the Dublin run later this year but it needs an intimate theatre.

I could see Me and My Girl do a limited run at the Savoy before say Mean Girls in Autumn 2019 or early 2020 or possibly a play. The Piccadilly would work well for Mean Girls and it has slightly higher capacity.

Come From Away is at The Abbey Theatre in Dublin this Christmas so they are clearly trying it out with the intent of a London run but I imagine if it does make it to London it would be as a limited run in a small venue.

Mean Girls will be a bit no matter where it goes as long as it is a medium sized theatre. The film is hugely popular. I don't think it matters which theatre it chooses. Savoy, Adelphi or Piccadilly I imagined it would be a great fit.

Think it will be too soon for Mean Girls, next year they will be more focused on the US tour. so talk of Waitress and Come From Away, we probably get a Shakin' Stevens/Tom Jones pukebox musical, start issuing the sickbags now. Surely not. No recognition factor whatsoever. Who the eff would be booking for Come From Away at the Savoy? Not gonna happen. Exactly, but none need to ‘Eff’. lol. Use Wicked as an example, if I was generous I would say their reviews were at best mixed on Broadway, didn’t land the Tony and the rest is history and is a monster of a hit wherever it goes, when you look at hits and misses over the years, only one thing stands out, there there is no exact science to what makes a hit and it is more of a crapshoot, than judgement. The same could be said for Motown and Kinky Boots Once a show gets good notices and on the way to recouping it ceases to become a show and becomes a commodity, to get more productions out there to cash in. Who knows if Waitress, DEH or CFA will be a hit, but it won’t be a hit unless you put a production on elsewhere. The show that was the protagonist for this thread, could be said is a bona fida hit but took 30 year to come over.

Also what about Heathers that's done really well at the other palace but I can also see it going on tour after. they could use Heathers as a filler for a few months. Till Anastasia or Mean Girls are ready to open. What on earth makes you think that Heathers, doing an 8 week run at the 312 seat "The Other Palace" cold survive at the 1,158 seat Savoy? I can't even see it working on tour.

Does anyone think the 'Dusty' production that's about to tour could do a limited run here? Seems odd it's only doing 4 northern venues so surely London is on the cards?

My bet is the Dublin production of Come From Away.
Or Mean Girls

Come From Away really does need a smaller venue in order to survive in London.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned An Officer and a Gentleman.
From day one, the tour has been sold as being 'prior to London', so if not the Savoy, it will probably land somewhere for a while.

I thought the Garrick or Phoenix would be a good place for that if it pops into London. London needs Emma Williams. We all need Emma Williams.

I think I read on here somewhere previously that An Officer and a Gentleman may be heading to the Garrick but that could be totally inaccurate!

Any chance of The Last Ship ending up in any of these empty theatres? I would have thought one on the smaller side.

I absolutely cannot see Waitress or Come From Away being in the Savoy, the latter would certainly be a bad fit for this theatre. I've also heard the rumour of Officer and a Gentleman going into the Garrick. Seems a shame the only shows we can think of that would go into theatres are Broadway transfers, wonder when we'll create the next big thing over here 🤔

I'm sure that a LOT of touring musicals claim they're touring "prior to London", and not all of them make it into the West End. I wouldn't automatically assume An Officer and a Gentleman will be opening in the West End just because they said they'd like to.
I'm always fascinated by the confidence some people have when stating which shows they think are going to come over from Broadway. (Across the board, I mean, not exclusive to this thread by any means!) Again, even if producers have expressed a wish to import a particular show, it's by no means a guarantee. I don't know that I'd take what could have been a tongue-in-cheek remark from Sonia Friedman as a cast iron guarantee that the Mean Girls transfer is basically official, and some people here seem really confident about the inevitable transfer of other shows with much less apparent evidence. If I had even half of this confidence, I'd be prime minister by now!

Sometimes feel I’m the only one that doesn’t like Waitress, Dear Evan Hansen or Come From Away.
In fairness not seen them but have the CDs and find all three a massive vanilla yawn fest.
Just me lol?
Wouldn’t mind seeing Mean Girls though.

I’m curious when a show closes, will they announce closure of a production knowing they have the next lined up? Or do they announce closures then wait for Producers to contact them and make enquiries?

Hopefully, they have something lined up, it costs more to have a theatre dark so financially it makes sense that something would be heading in there and they've got plenty of time to get that sorted, fingers crossed! I was saying to a friend literally the other day I wouldn't be shocked if Dreamgirls keeps chugging on for a little longer until someone else wants the theatre haha

Come From Away is happening, Dublin cast contracts include London engagement. Not sure if Savoy or elsewhere but there you go.

If it is to be Mean Girls, we may get some info from the Tony Awards this Sunday. Sonia Friedman certainly seems keen to bring it over.

I don't know why, but Mean Girls just feels right for the Savoy. Maybe it's the Legally Blonde connection and we know the theatre looks good in pink.
