A random question, but this book came out in e-format only and was filled with gorgeous photos, but my hard drive copy is now unreadable  Gable was of course male principal at the Royal Ballet before his retirement from dancing, and after many collaborations on film and TV with Ken Russell, he did wonders as AD of Northern Ballet Theatre for a decade as well as co-founding the Central School of Ballet. The book was called The Dancer from the Dance and was available from Money's now defunct website - does anyone know if it is still available anywhere? |

It's funny, I never saw Gable dance, and don't actually know anything about him, but I fell a bit in love with him through reading Lynn Seymour's autobiography as a teenager, and I feel like I'll always have a soft spot for him.
That sounds like an interesting read, I'll keep an eye out for it.
It's times like this when you miss Dance Books in Cecil Court.

I worked with him for several months during the royal Exchange's opening season in 1976, and probably chatted way too much about the Boyfriend, Delius, The Music Lovers and Women in Love, but a few years later when he was running NBT he got in touch and asked e to write a ballet for him, which I did, but he sadly died soon after, and the ballet never happened. A beautiful talented man.

May I just add my admiration for Christopher Gable as a dancer. After I arrived in London early in 1960 I saw much of what Gable did with both the Royal Ballet touring company (run by John Field) and the main company at Covent Garden. I particularly remember him in 'The Two Pigeons' and 'Romeo and Juliet' but it was always a pleasure to see him dance in anything. I second what crabtree called him: a beautiful, talented man.

As he was once in Doctor Who have you tried the fan forums - they are likely to have people who have bought it based on the connection. |

This thread has encouraged me to dig out my Lynn Seymour autobiography for a reread, and I'm really enjoying it. It must be 25 years at least since I read it.

Oh - I loved Lynn Seymour's autobiography - and thought it was heart-breaking too.
