Mary Poppins - Prince Edward Theatre

Tickets for the last two extensions (from 3 October to closing date) are slightly more expensive: premium seats now £175 (from £165) and all £40 seats are now £42.5). Also, more seats are sold at premium prices (stalls row O, dress circle row C, especially during Christmas).
Final show selling quickly (only one DC slip seat left) but, unlike "Come from Away", still far from selling out.
Anyone going? (Obviously I am!)

Mr B told us this months ago…but it had a great run. Most shows aren’t built to run for 10+ years.

Better than the dress circle slips?

This is a more of a generic question but Mary Poppins comes to mind since it’s in the middle of Soho and since I was at Pride yesterday… how do the shows cope? There’s so many people and noise etc. can it heard from inside or am I underestimating the level of sound proofing?

The only time I've been to the theatre during Pride afternoon was the Prince Edward Theatre (to see Martin Guerre). We arrived late as it was a nightmare getting across London, due to crowded underground trains and streets, but thankfully the show too started late, so there was no problem. But you couldn't hear anything at all from outside the theatre as soon as you were in the auditorium and all the doors were closed.

I guess it depends on the theatre though. I know someone who lived upstairs from a theatre that Les Mis was playing in, and could hear the gunshots from the barricades every night.

Going to London Sunday whats the chance of getting 4 days seats ? Or any other ideas for cheap tickets 👍🎶

According to the show's Instagram account, many members of the "post-pandemic cast" have left the company. You would have thought their contracts would be extended till the show's closing date in January.

Who’s leaving? Does seem silly to have a cast change now when it’s only got 4 months or so to run. Although I guess if Cameron reckons he can save a bit of money for the last few months that might be why!

This happened at LotR, contracts expired but the show was only running for a few months more. Most of the cast left and their understudies were bumped up.

With a show due to close, producers hate paying for rehearsals so they won’t generally recast anybody or pay to “put them in”. This means swings are on every performance, parts are merged or even cut shows.

Basically, it’s exactly how you don’t want to see a show - last legs, everyone looking for new jobs, no director in sight. I’m pretty sure at LotR the dance captain was one of the cast who left! Quite literally nobody in charge of creative.

I’ve experienced “dead shows” at Les Mis (Sean Kingsley as Valjean circa 2004, when the show looked set to close), Shrek on Broadway, The Woman in White in the West End, The Lord of the Rings - some of the flattest and worst individual performances I’ve ever seen.

In short, I predict this will be very flat and I’d save my money if I were you.
