More news no doubt released earlier than originally planned following the TB detective work yesterday!

Sad to see Charlie is leaving, I thought he was a fantastic Bert and he and Zizi were great together. I’m sure he’ll be fantastic in Crazy For You though.

Based on the tweet from the official Mary Poppind account, it gives the impression it may be a temporary replacement and Charlie comes back after Chichester

This is great casting. Louis Gaunt is incredibly talented and has a natural charm and charisma both on stage and off, he's a delight to watch. He's been doing really stellar work in regional theatres for the last few years - and even though he's still only in his early twenties I'm sure the role of west end leading man will fit him like a glove. It's definitely a good reason to pay a return visit.

Yup, all his shows feel way more mechanical, plasticky and rushed now. The soul of a lot of them just isn't what it was, especially with his 'big two'. I feel though that the strength of the cast of the MP revival (Petula Clark aside) means that this effect isn't quite as bad at the Prince Edward as it is at the Sondheim or at Her Majesty's.
He really did feel like a horny teen in love with Sierra Boggess; it was creepy. Remember when he said Connie Fisher was as big a star as Elaine Paige and John Barrowman? Ah, digressing again, this isn't the thread for it.

Saw today, can't remember her name my apologies but it was the 2nd cover's debut today and you wouldn't even notice she slotted in very well!
Unfortunately, I feel the show is overworked, over polished, and a little shrill at times. Why has Mrs. Banks lost her suffragette plot? Now instead of both parents being too busy for their kids she is the doormat doting wife (although I did love her solo number). The bird lady contributes... nothing? Unless I missed it? I just thought the whole show a great shame, as the familiar songs just sort of appear with no rhyme or reason, very surface-level when there's so much you could work with.
Charlie was nice, but casting Bert and Poppins so young just doesn't contribute much, and feels like children playing as grown ups. Jane was great, the cook (apologies I forgot her character name!) was so fun, the butler is a bit of a pointless addition. Big production and slick, would have loved to have seen the original house but this one was still pretty good.
Just felt a little disappointed, and for a long show still felt rushed.

The timing is unfortunate with her holiday as people seeing the TV show may have wanted to book to see it immediately and see her and she's off, but that's life. It doesn't always fall into place.
From a show perspective, I am sure them being seen by millions on TV is very much worth them missing a show.

I personally have never seen eye to eye with Cameron Mackintosh on many things but to allow the main leads to miss a show on a Saturday Night to do a TV show when many in the Prince Edward could have paid £125 is a disgrace, that is not saying the understudies aren’t great etc but always think many put on a brave face when not actually seeing the main advertised lead that performed on press night for the liggers. Also hardly the best promotion and proving Macintosh's lack of care when Ms Strallen is now in Cuba and won’t be back till March 16th!! And I bet you won’t find that Info on any CamMack website!! Oh get over yourself, actors are entitled to Annual Leave and was probably booked in months in advance.

Sorry to say, but I’d take anyone over Zizi. She is godawful. I’d be much happier with the understudy. I took a friend, and we got the best seats in the house etc., but we were sorely disappointed. Probably the worst Poppins ever.
What does Cameron see in these people?!

I don’t imagine anyone will be demanding refunds if a cover Mary is on.
I really wish he would just cast someone age appropriate in the role. Zizi is just way too young. Where is that feeling of otherworldly wisdom.
Joanna Riding would be sensational.

Zizi is just way too young. Julie Andrews was 29 when the film was made. Scarlett Strallen was 23 , Laura Michelle Kelly was 22 when originating their roles. Zizi at 26 when she first played Mary was not out of line with previous Mary's!

Nobody is saying that actors are not entitled to holidays, but they’re also not the Queen or all that. Some are in the privileged position of having people who idolise them and want to come and see them. This is why it should be transparent, because why should those people shell out £40+ on the ‘chance’ that their hero isn’t on; especially with some productions insisting on holiday date blackouts too.

I want to see Lucie in the role but always find out just when she starts cover! I know even booking when Zizi is out I wouldn’t be guaranteed Lucie (2nd cover was on the other day) it would give me a chance!

I second Joanna Riding. I think she originally did some of the workshops and then they decided to cast younger and they offered her Mrs. Banks which she passed on.

I don't care about the age of the actress tbh, it's more about how she carries herself. Mary Poppins genuinely believes that she is close to perfect and has no time for any nonsense. And yet she's whimsical and cheerful, but stern at times too.
They can cast younger of course, but it needs to be someone with a bit of gravitas.

Caught the show again this evening - front row of dress circle on a £30 day seat!! The show is in great shape and continues to be a fantastic evening at the theatre. Loved every minute of it and hope to go again soon!

Another show I was glad to return to tonight (despite some very poor audience behaviour - Group of 120 visiting from South America seemingly did not understand the concept of not using phones during the show - bravo to the ushers though!). It's in great shape and Zizi and Charlie both on top form. And a super strong supporting cast all around.

Did you notice if there were any empty seats? Apparently Zizi will miss some shows due to The Car Man.
