I see thanks! Looking at the list of venues (that the first tour didn't go to) I find it hard to imagine it working in some of them, but clearly they must find a way - can't imagine the part of the show without!

Disney and Cameron Mackintosh likely visited every venue they thought potentially could house Poppins and see it could achieve the flying. This production has done many venues worldwide so they'll likely perfected it

I think that's why it didn't come to London (e.g. Wimbledon) because, although the theatre is really big, the stage isn't very big for the set and she wouldn't be able to fly into the top. Also, maybe it's because they're hoping in a west end transfer?!

Also, maybe it's because they're hoping in a west end transfer?! Yes the producers would sooner see a West End transfer, rather than to take it somewhere like Wimbledon. Theatres that size only have stuff go there for one week, two at the most. Something big like Mary Poppins which is running about a month in each venue, wouldn't fit there.

It's a shame this show is touring into January as it would've been a nice fill we for the Phoenix for 5 months. Could've just come in from tour and set up their set - would've done very well in a theatre that size especially over the Christmas season.
With Drury Lane now occupied, o don't know where this will go unless someone needs it as a filler or if 42nd Street is only a limited run

It's a moot point I know but would this actually be able to fit into the Phoenix given the complexity/size of the set which is much more substantial/impressive than the average touring production? It should be against the law to stage anything except Once in the Phoenix anyway!
Personally, I think Mary Poppins would have been a much better fit for Theatre Royal Drury Lane than 42nd Street - and the timing of Charlie closing coincides with the Mary Poppins tour coming to an end perfectly - but c'est la vie.

There's no way that Poppins would ever fit info the Phoenix, the show is designed for theatres with much bigger stages and capacity,

Not a hope would Poppins fit in the Phoenix I saw this in Norwich a few weeks ago. It was good and I enjoyed it but it did really feel like a tour. Apart from Rebecca Lock (sensational) and Mrs Andrews every other cast member felt like the second understudy. You know, they were good but just not perfect for the role. I also thought it was directed to be hammed up a little. All over the top and lacked the authentic performances I was used to with Poppins. Zizi was good but no Laura or Scarlett. She lacked warmth in her singing acting and singing. Mary is a difficult role to play, the balance of strict, fun, secretive, good witch etc. Bert was a good dancer (Tap Dogs Australia) but again lacked the star presence of a tall leading man. The flying was good and did happen in various places (including over the audience at the end) but overall I felt the pop up set felt like a pale imitation of the original West End and Broadway look. I also do still have issues with the toy scene/Temper Temper/new song at the end of Act 1. It doesn't work for me. I do hope this comes into the West End again, It's a super show and would be great to have in London again.

Saw this last night in Plymouth with westendcub. The show is in good shape. Definitely worthy of a west end transfer.

Saw this on Saturday night at Newcastle - a good way to relax before the Great North Run!
The set just about fitted on the smaller stage, there was certainly less space at the sides, but it didn't detract from the show at all. Through a combination of school trips and my own visits I have now seen this tour 5 times, and the cast are my favourite overall since the originals, especially now Neil Roberts has taken over as Mr Banks. Rebecca Lock, Matt Lee and Wendy Ferguson were outstanding. I cannot fault Zizi Strallen's performance but there is something I don't quite gel with, my favourites so far being Laura Michelle Kelly and Lisa O'Hare. But I am more than happy to put this down to personal taste rather than any inadequacy on her part. Overall though, its wonderful to see a tour in such great shape - after all the controversy over Ghost, its a great reminder that being on tour doesn't have to mean low quality and stunt casting.

Really excited to see this in Cardiff in January. Saw it when it toured years ago and looking forward to seeing this production of a fave!

There was loads of speculation about a season in the West End? Any updates? A lot of people thought and hoped it would go to Drury Lane but since 42nd Street is going there, not sure now? Unless it goes to the Palladium for a season next year or 42nd street is only limited? really hope it comes back to London!

The 2nd cover Christine Tucker was on as Mary on Friday night and the two Saturday performances - absolutely outstanding performances!
Her Mary is a softer one than Zizi's, but works extremely well. I much prefer her singing voice to Zizi's too - I find Zizi a bit harsh on the ears in the higher register.
For someone just a year out of training she's an incredible performer, and has a great career ahead of her!

I think maybe it could go into one of Mackintosh's smaller houses if the tour can fit into smaller theatres like Norwich or Newcastle, like ptwest's review says. Maybe the Noel Coward if Half A Sixpence doesn't extend?

I saw Christine Tucker as Mary (second cover) in the matinee today. She was sensational and had all the mannerisms (spit) spot on and a glorious voice.

Cannot believe this thread is only 6 pages, it deserves to be 75744336 pages long as it is such a spectacular production and the cast are sublime.
I saw it again on Saturday night (sadly the last show in Newcastle) and it was indescribably brilliant. The energy on that stage is astonishing.
If it comes anywhere near you.... go! If it isn't coming anywhere near you... catch a train. Catch a plane and go!
A true five star production.

The production values are so high, as shady23 said the energy on stage is absolutely amazing. The set is one of the best I've seen for a touring set, and the fact that they managed to fit the flying rig in (and have a grand total of zero no-fly shows!) is incredible. The cast were super-talented - my favourites were Christine Tucker, the 2nd cover Mary, who went on as Mary for just over a week while Zizi was on holiday and the 1st cover was out with an injury, and Wendy Ferguson as Mrs Brill - absolutely hilarious! Beg, borrow or steal a ticket for the last 2 venues on the tour (Bradford & Cardiff).

If you think that's impressive, stand watching the "get out" as they pack the entire thing into a single ladies' hand-grip bag... Brilliant! This just made me spit my tea!

Anyone else heard anything recently of this transferring back to the West End temporarily??
I was thinking and if FN were to happen at the Picc (not sure it will) then this could easily be a filler for then?
I would LOVE to see the show but as it didn't come anywhere near London on tour, never got to see it.

Poppins is doing an international tour so the likelihood of it transferring is zilch, also I doubt they'd go to the Piccadilly since it's an ATG theatre and it's too small
