I very much doubt we would have ever seen the urbane David Niven wearing a blue marl sweater with such a wide neck!

Oops, silly me! David Tomlinson of course. Actually I've loved Joseph Millsom since the Cuban Much Ado with Tamsin Greig.

Fantastic singer and, when I met her a few years ago, one of the most pleasant celebrities I've ever met. Have to agree with you there. Have met Petula and she is so down to earth despite being such a big star. She doesn't take herself too seriously and her energy is amazing. Can't wait to see her in Mary along with all the others.

Petula Clark?? Where did that come from?! It's very Diana Rigg/My Fair Lady, get a legend to pop on for a scene or two then pop off again. 😂 I'd love to see Emma Williams as Mrs. Banks personally. Emma in everything! Emma got down to final few for Mary a couple of times but never quite made it. Shame as I think she would have been an incredible Mary.

And yet Pet still isn't a Dame yet. Hopefully this comeback return will be what clinches it.
I mean, Babs Windsor and Twiggy . . .

Though when you see some of the other names who have got it...

But they went to America and Switzerland...not (whispers) France!!! It becomes more traitorous with every passing day 😂

There are very few performers with the range of performance and the experience of Petula. Countless recordings in multiple languages, radio, 30 films, multiple tv series, stage work such as The sound of Music, Blood Brothers and Sunset Boulevard together with countless concert tours and performances. If ever a performer deserved a Damehood it is this one. To be back in the west end at almost 87 is fabulous , not just for her but for the audience. I can't wait to see this production, especially as it going to have some changes in it not just for Miss Clark but for Zizi and Charlie .

If they want to give her another song then it must be "nowhere to go but up" from Mary Poppins Returns. Could just as easily fit a bird theme as well as balloons.

Will Zizi have a standby/alternate Mary ? I’m not sure. They did before I think for the Original West End. I think.

There were understudies of course (I think Lisa O' Hare was originally an understudy and then went to on to play the part both in London and the first UK tour) but no "official" alternate.

Can’t wait to see Mary Poppins back at the Prince Edward Theatre. 🌂☂️ I assume you know they’ve already announced Zizi Strallen, Charlie Stemp, Joseph Millson and Petula Clarke as Mary, Burt, Mr Banks and the Bird Lady? I’d guess the rest will be announced by the end of the summer.
