That looks like a fairly well balanced season. Merry Widow can be a joyous thing to behold - with the right production (otherwise it can tend towards the naff)
War Requiem - fully staged? Never thought of it in that way - but why not give it a try. It is a powerful score.
Jack the Ripper - any word on the composer?
And no Verdi...some of my best (and worst) evenings at ENO have been for Verdi operas. The low point being Simon Boccanegra (I think) with lots of chairs. It might have been Sicilian Vespers - but I think it was Boccanegra. I still cherish seeing Forza with Josephine Barstow. Wow what a score.

Ah - bit of digging for Ripper - composed by Iain Bell
'Jack the Ripper' at ENO with a cast including Dame Josephine Barstow, Susan Bullock, Lesley Garrett and Alan Opie, conducted by Martyn Brabbins.
That maybe makes it possible that La Garrett might be doing Hanna in Widow as well.

Requiem is staged by Daniel Kramer. He also directs Jack the Ripper
Hanna Glawari is sung by Sarah Tynan. Good choice if you ask me.
Full details of the season are announced tomorrow
Secret Seats now cost £30. Still an absolute bargain

I'm really pleased they're bringing back the good doctor's Boheme - the critics didn't love it but I thought one of the best.

Secret Seats now cost £30. Still an absolute bargain Yes, still a bargain (I ended up in the stalls for both secret seats I booked this year) but a 50% increase in their cheap accessible ticket scheme isn't a great look!

Their love affair with Mr Glass is a mystery but the new season looks promising particularly looking forward to Salome, porgy & Bess & War Requiem

Really excited about Noyes Fludde at Stratford East, my very local theatre. My own kids have loved this piece since Wes Anderson's Moonrise Kingdom and the eldest got to perform in a production of it at Trinity Buoy Wharf, also in Newham some years ago. Tickets very cheap too. www.eno.org/whats-on/noyes-fludde/

The Lucia got raves when it was first on but I didn't get to see it. That's the one I'm looking forward to.

Weird! I can see they don't want all the secret seats to go to friends - but they can avoid that by not putting them all on sale surely!
At least you still get priority access to the water jugs.

I didn't see an announcement, but multi-buy discount tickets went live today. The site says that secret seats aren't available with multi-buy though so presumably they won't show up until the public booking opens.
Pretty excited to see Akhnaten again.

Does Multi-Buy mean that anyone can buy tickets, as long as they are buying tickets for more than one opera?

Does Multi-Buy mean that anyone can buy tickets, as long as they are buying tickets for more than one opera? Multi-buy went active on the the 15th May, so non members can buy tickets for 2 or more productions from then.

Just had a look at booking and one of the two I was interested in (War Requiem) has no weekend performances so inaccessible if you don’t live or work in London. Which is a bit off I think given their huge arts council funding

What no weekend performances? How odd
I tried booking this morning. Crash. No one answering the phone. My email has not had a response yet

I didn't have a problem booking for Noye's Fludde first thing this morning. But a bit later when I tried to get in to the website to check something the whole system had clearly crashed.

They did tweet earlier that booking by mobile was still working when the site wasn’t so that might be worth a try

I booked for Porgy and Bess without any trouble - but that was at about 1.30, long after the initial rush. Still some secret seats available for every performance when I booked, although that's not what I did (I'm cheap - or rather, I spend more on train fares than on theatre tickets - and the back row of the dress circle in the Coliseum is perfectly OK, and cheaper than the secret seats).

Hadn't realised the back row of dress was only £20 - think it used to be more? No view of surtitles, but a bargain particularly for Akhnaten which doesn't have surtitles! Anyway - looking at booking again and there are no weekend performances for Noye's Fludde either. So basically two out of the three I was interested in, I can't see unless I take a day off work. So f*ck them basically, they deserve to go bust. Edited to add - OK, there is actually a matinee of Noye's Fludde on Saturday 13th July. But you can't book it on the ENO website, only via Stratford East. So my comment on them deserving to go bust still stands Anyway, top tip - Stratford East charges no booking fee, ENO charges £2.25.

Still no email from ENO. Obviously my business is not important to them
Regardless I booked yesterday, I can’t beleive a £2.50 booking fee per ticket. I know they have to make money but a booking fee is such a F**k you type of statement, why not just make each ticket 2.50 more expensive ?

Having looked again I'm even more confused about Noye's Fludde.
There are 16 performances on the Stratford East website (every day except Sunday between 1st and 13th July), compared to 7 on the ENO website (all evening, no weekends, only a single matinee).

My first time with secret seats, hoping it works out; La Boheme, Magic Flute and Porgy & Bess. On pasta or rice until September!
