No-one predicted that... Harrison - son of Harry But Archie??! Archie is one of those bizarre names that you can find in both a nursing home and an overcrowded state school. Magical. And Harrison is hilarious. Are they both a bit thick or do they genuinely think it's oh-so-clever to almost literally call him Harry's Son?

(also I love the non-story that it was going to be an 'unusual' name - 50% of British boys seem to be called Archie nowadays, with the other 50% being Tyler or Alfie. Bleugh. Not names I would give my children, for certain, but then again it's none of my business )

Poor kid.
And he doesn't even get a posh title despite the fact his mother was perfectly happy to become a Duchess!

They could have included a title in his name. Archie Harrison Devourer of Souls Mountbatten-Windsor has a nice ring to it.

That grated with me - if you didn't want your kids to be titled, you should've married a commoner and had kids with them. I count myself as a Meghan liker but her weird tinkly stage laughter during the interview got on my wick.

(If I was a Duchess, I would definitely call my children things like:
Peregrine Rupert Charles Ralph (pronounced 'Raif' OBVIOUSLY) Tiberius William Cecilia Angel Pearl Marina Kitten Catherine Selene Octavia Rose Thomasina Yara Petal Cosima Imogen Wren ...)

We have had a Princess Marina in the past so that has the right heritage.
Archie is less out there than Eugenie or Zara
I suspect he will pick up titles as he gets older. I don't blame anyone for wanting to give him as much normality as is possible under such circumstances. The kid is going to put under intense media attention for the rest of his life. I know a title doesn't change that but as has been seen with Peter Philips, it is possible for someone to escape the glare or royal watchers most of the time.

There's no real reason for him to have a title though, particularly now in the days of a slimmed down Royal Family. He's so far down the line of succession now and Meghan Markdown has banged on for long enough about wanting her children to have "normal" lives so it's hardly surprising. She's so achingly earnest about wanting to seem different that this just helps add to her persona as "a breath of fresh air" in the Royal Family. He can become a Prince of course when Charles becomes King but only if Meghan and Harry approve.

I only know of her name as there was a hospital named after her close to where I grew up

Technically even William and Kate's younger kids shouldn't really have titles - they were granted as a courtesy by the Queen. Possibly because Kate has a yearning for titles, or perhaps to prevent headaches and sibling rivalry due differing rules of precedence among the kids. Can you imagine having to tell your younger children that they have to bow to their elder sister?

They will all have to bow to George in the end
But the children of each royal couple should be treated as equally as possible. I know given their roles that is difficult. But it is better to try than to be forced into some rigid hierarchy.

In a way yes it is by courtesy of the Queen however she issued letters patent back before Prince George was born that the title and style was to be given to ALL children of Prince William. So really by the time Charlotte and Louis came along they both technically should have the titles. The courtesy was granted by the Queen before any of the children were born.

Not a good day for Danny Baker. Perhaps he can go back to promoting whiter than white washing powder?

Danny Baker's claims of not knowing which royal had given birth are just ridiculous. The image was blatantly racist, and he's fooling nobody that he didn't know exactly what he was posting.

Baker - not for the first time in his career - as made an idiot of himself.
No pity for him at all.

Given that he's a long-time football obsessive, he can't fail to know about the racist associations around monkees, bananas and black people. And I note that he posted an old picture of himself using a banana as a microphone around the same time as he was tweeting about the baby, as well as a picture of a can of beer that 'Contains 'brown' in it's 'grist.'. Bit of a coincidence, that.

Bit of a surprise that the BBC actually fired him; their usual MO with racists is to invite them onto Newsnight.

I'm going to be honest, when I was shown the picture I thought it was a circus joke. Didn't cross my mind that he (might) have meant that with racist intention. My friend was going no look again. Still didn't see it. He had to tell me.
I'm going for stupid not racist. Danny Baker not me.

Wasn't Danny Baker a football pundit? Haven't football hooligans been notable for their racism over the years, including but not limited to throwing bananas at black players? He might not have meant it racistly, but it seems really unlikely that he could work as a professional observer of football but somehow magically always be looking in the other direction when the racism happens.
(And besides, intent never matters quite as much as effect; maybe you never meant to touch anyone when you decided to flail your arms around vigorously in a crowded tube carriage, but your intent matters for very little when I end up with two black eyes and a broken nose courtesy of your windmilling arms.)

"Archie" rather than the full version is just awful: by all means call a child by the diminutive but for goodness' sake, give her/him a proper name. I have an acquaintance whose sons are called "Bobby" and something else shortened and apparently that's how she registered them.
